    4. @zachariastargazer Wow....pricey o.O

      1. @leonkfox Considering that it's just the episodes and not even a physical product that requires manufacture, and from what I've heard, early versions with bonus animation glitches and washed-out colors, and that a typical Blu-Ray with extra features costs less? Yeah, it's kind of a ripoff. Good thing we have YouTube and various downloads. Can't wait to see a product I can buy in a store though.

        1. @starshine Well it's iTunes, and iTunes is ran by Apple, who are pretty much the masters of ripping people off. I love FiM but even if I were American and had access to it I would not buy standard definition episodes (and poor ones at that) for $40

          1. @leonkfox The iTunes downloads are HD.

            1. @starshine I thought there were SD and HD ones, but the SD ones alone were $40.

              1. @leonkfox Dunno then. Regardless, it's still clearly overpriced. Digital-only content shouldn't ever sell for more than a real product.

                1. @starshine What if the digital product is somehow better than the physical one?

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:27:37 UTC from web
                  1. @ceruleanspark I can't think of any single instance where that's the case though.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:30:49 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                    1. @leonkfox I dunno, I consider any service where you get infinite redownloads to be inherently superior to a single instance of a physical disk.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:32:02 UTC from web
                      1. @ceruleanspark But you don't really own that digital version, or have full control over it. If the people running the service ban you for whatever reason then you can kiss your content bye bye.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:33:34 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                        1. @leonkfox That is literally the exact argument I give to people who insist on singing Valve's praises at every opportunity. Equally though, if something happens to your disk, you've lost your content just as thoroughly.

                          1. @ceruleanspark The difference is, that's one game that's buggered. You get banned from steam, they're ALL history.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:36:36 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                            1. @leonkfox Which is why I won't buy anything through Steam that isn't on sale, as it happens. It's kind of refreshing to know someone else thinks about this. Normally all I get is "Valve is perfect".

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:38:04 UTC from web
                              1. @ceruleanspark Even if I do one day get into PC gaming, I'll still be buying physical copies of games wherever it's possible.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:46:44 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                            2. @leonkfox Steam is a bit better. You can have what you like, when you like, but you're still right. If Steam disappears, so do your games.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:39:54 UTC from web
                              1. @drewdle I like to properly own my games though, lend them to someone if I want to etc and not have the risk of getting banned and losing them all because someone doesn't like me.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:48:45 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                        2. @leonkfox This, exactly. You're paying to rent "access" to content, not paying to own a copy of the content, which means that you are essentially giving up when and where and for how long you can access that content. Look at Netflix. They don't make a guarantee that the content you want will be available when you want it. Why pay for that? *ahem* Rant aside, yes. We need MLP cereal pronto.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:36:20 UTC from web
                  2. @ceruleanspark 1. It clearly is not; 2. I can't hold it in my hands, can't put it on a shelf, and would have to put up with iTunes if I even wanted to make use of it. Le suck.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:32:04 UTC from PonyNet Android
                    1. @starshine Yeah, but that isn't anything to do with it being digital. That's to do with specific publisher and vendor problems.

Monday, 08-Aug-11 18:33:42 UTC from web
                2. @starshine Exactly. I don't care much for digital distribution (sp) to be honest, at least not for movies, TV shows and games. They're almost always as expensive (if not more) as a physical product which as you mentioned is bullbananas because there are no manufacturing costs, and there's no middle man either. Plus I like to actually own these things properly.
