@wafers @redenchilada Still, they use really bad compression. They're a scam because it's totally possible to fit a 2 and a half hours movie in 1080p along with the soundtrack in three languages+subtitles in a DVD if you use a proper codec.

@wafers Pretty much, yeah. That's why I never buy stuff in DVD/blu ray. They just waste space. Also original copies have all that anti piracy and FBI crap at the start. I mean, what do I care about the FBI? They're some foreign glorified police.

@critialcloudkicker Honestly here you don't get in trouble unless you decide to go and open a store to sell pirated movies and games. The government knows that the prices the companies expect people to pay for them are in relation to hardware and commodities stupidly high, and going after pirates would mean destroying the whole industry since nobody would buy TVs nor DVD/blu ray players.

@nerthos *shrug* My family gets 'em because fussing with digital copies is much harder than sticking a disc in a PS3 and having high-def movie. My laptop also has a drive for them but I have nothing that can play them.

@redenchilada I always end up watching stuff in the computer because it's easier than messing with the TV, I can do other stuff at the same time, and I don't have to bother with the stupidly restrictive set of codecs the player accepts. My dad does buy movies and downloads TV series that aren't aired/he missed on TV and plays them on the dvd player through USB.

@nerthos Having a big screen is nice when the whole family's watching movies together, and players remove the worry about codecs because it's all set up to Just Work ™, which is handy since mom's not so technically inclined. I'll watch some things on the computer, though.
