@awlderpy I'll give it a read. Just a warning: I express my opinions very poorly or badly-worded so, if I look like I have no idea what I'm talking about, don't be surprised.

@yodelerty Reciprocated.

@awlderpy I'm honestly trying hard to wrap my head around this, as well as expressing my opinion on it. What I can gather is the concept of objectivism follows the idea that people work best when they acknowledge the restrictions that reality binds them to and work for themselves, without being blinded by emotions and whatnot. In a purely functional setting, that would probably work pretty well but, as human beings, it's difficult to not use emotion as an extension of reason. If people could control that and simply use logic, I imagine it would be a good idea but it seems unrealistic. Although maybe I just read it wrong. I dunno, I've never done this before!

@yodelerty Things always sound stupider when I read them over a second time. Remind me to not try to write a paragraph ever again.

@yodelerty You expressed yourself well for someone with little practice in it. I agree that it's difficult for human beings to not be governed by emotion, which is exactly the cause for humanity's current social and political situations. This is of course based on a sort of utopian idea, but as with philosophy it seems to explain how thing will work when we get to that point, not HOW we get to it. This, is something we figure out for ourselves.

@awlderpy You quite got my exact point, it's up to themselves to solve it, meaning to say if they know better, they won't do any crime whatsoever, if the economy is a well fair trade, the impact of selling and buying wouldn't be such a dramatic display of today's society. Where emotion is based on what latest technology you have in hand.

@awlderpy You have a point. Although the problem in that case is getting to that point in the first place. This may be off the map, but I think most people believe that capitalism as it is works, even if it's not really "true capitalism". I don't really have an opinion on that but hey, one day I might. That being said, the idea of having everyone governed by reason as opposed to emotion is a good one to me but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

@yodelerty Not off the map at all; in fact I'd encourage some comparision to what's happening in reality. Now the question is, do you want it to happen? Do you want to see reason as the main purpose for all we as a species accomplish, instead of emotion?
Friday, 25-Oct-13 06:06:47 UTC from web-
@awlderpy I'll have to get back to you on that. Honestly, I don't know if humans could accomplish as much as we have today without being driven a little by emotions and selflessness. And I don't know if I want to live in a world where everyone is living only for themselves. But this is hardly my forte.
Friday, 25-Oct-13 06:13:48 UTC from web-
@yodelerty Yes there has been progress with how we govern ourselves currently but who's to say that's because of emotion, at least the good progress? Selflessness I've considered a good quality all my life, but what if without emotion there is true selflessness. Now I'm feeling as if there needs to be elaboration. Well, I was going to find a copy of 'The Objectivist' anyways.

@awlderpy Maybe once you've read it we can pick this up there. Maybe I'll pick up a copy at some point too. Although that's another book in my queue.

@yodelerty Perhaps, but I believe I shall also read through some other philisophical viewpoints, maybe even Marx/Engels. At the very least to get perspective.

@awlderpy Never hurts to get all sides of the story.

@yodelerty My only inhibitions with the works of Marx is that it served to create the debacle in which I was partly raised.
