I just picked up some fruits from a fruit tree when I was on my bike-ride. I think I have positively identified them as "reine claude" or "greengage". I extracted the seeds only to find that they are pretty much like walnuts ( I had to autopsy 1 for the lack of a better word ). How do you think I should sprout seedlings from them ?

@critialcloudkicker ... Or... now that I am looking up how to cultivate walnuts they might actually be walnuts...

@critialcloudkicker Y'know, I've always wanted a walnut tree. Not sure why.

@dropsterdash Because they are tall and have a heavy-top-bush able to provide shade without being a total stand-in-the-way tree ?

@critialcloudkicker No, because walnuts grow on them. :P

@dropsterdash "Placement of your tree is more important than with most other nut trees because walnut leaves are toxic. The leaves (as well as the roots) give off a substance called juglone, and it will kill any other plants nearby including the grass. So if your plans include having your nut trees within the yard, or overhanging other plants, you’ll have to pick another kind of tree. Also, keep your walnut leaves out of the compost pile." - http://www.gardeningblog.net/how-to-grow/walnuts/ ... Hmm... I did not know that

@critialcloudkicker I don't think a walnut tree would do well with the weather up here.
