The more I learn about #AndersBehringBreivik, the less remains of the Hannibal Lecter-like "intelligent monster" he seemed like at first.
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony the more you respect him?

@nightwillow err...nooooo. He comes across as more and more pathetic with every day.

@lilytheamazingfaintingpony I've heard from some people (mostly on 4chan) who have read his manifesto that he has some good ideas and makes good points

@nightwillow to answer your question about the manifesto...it did seem very impressive at first, it took me a few days to see beyond the verbosity and notice how it doesn't hold together. I guess part of why I'm unimpressed is because a lot of the material is rather familiar to me. I used to be a rather fanatical evangelical christian when I was younger, I was into all sorts of end times prophecies, believed I was being "repressed" by a vast new age-conspiracy and so on. Breivik's thoughts are similar, only with islam. In the end, the manifesto is just another angry young man who has moved himself to society's fringe but believes he has been pushed.

@rotation Good for you. He *is* somewhat "generically handsome", at least to a Norwegian, so here we probably wouldn't make the connection. I know a lot of people with Breiviky looks, but I don't see him in them because of that. Hope it hasn't caused you any problems.

@lilytheamazingfaintingpony that's very interesting. Norway has taken the whole "They all look the same" thing to another level. the reason that "they all look alike" phenomenon happens is because when you are around a group of people a lot, you pick out things that make them different. for different groups of people, those discerning features are different. I didn't know it could be localized to a country.

@nightwillow Good point. I can, by and large, tell Swedes from Norwegians based on looks and get it right, something I doubt non-scandinavians could. Kind of like how non-asians struggle with seeing the difference between Japanese-Americans and Chinese-Americans. A friend of mine who is an immigrant says she can do the same thing with different *tribes* from Somalia...

@lilytheamazingfaintingpony it's all about conditioning based on the people you spend most of your time with.

@nightwillow you used the word conditioning! <3 (it's awesome because I'm taking a course about behavioral science right now)
-
@lilytheamazingfaintingpony I forgot what I was replying to. OH YES! Yeah I only took a 1 semester Intro to Behavioral Science class. I already knew most of it though
