@purpletinker ... Why are you promoting the NYC meetup so prominently, and a whole month in advance? Can other meetup groups get advertising there too?

@starshine It's more than a meetup. It's a convention. We have an actual venue, with 7000 square feet of space just for us. We have guests Jayson Thiessen and Sethisto. We have almost 100 RSVPs already. This isn't just "a meetup". It's THE meetup. Ask anypony who was at BroNYCon June. And this is going to be a good deal bigger and a LOT more awesome. I do plenty to promote other meetups. I maintain www.bronies.com, I encourage the formation of other meetup groups, I routinely pimp the new meetup groups on EquestriaDaily, and occasionally I even sponsor out-of-town groups monetarily. Without me, there would be three organised meetup groups (NYC, Portland and Seattle/Tacoma).

@starshine In short.... I do plenty to promote non-NYC meetup groups. Just ask Boston what we did to help them. But this is a major event, not Just Another Meetup. (Plus, as an aside, I pay the bills here. But if I ran a meetup group of 10 people, you can bet it wouldn't be up on there at the top of the page. This is BIG STUFF.)

@purpletinker 100 attendees doesn't really make a convention in my book. It's just a big meetup, and I think it's only that big because you're promoting the heck out of it everywhere and pushing people to come from way out of state. By that logic we could have a "convention" in Columbus too. As for helping other groups? You sure didn't help us. As I recall, you replied to me when I was struggling to make arrangements for the August meetup, but instead of offering advice or help, you just said that you're aware that it's hard to do that stuff because you run the NYC group and oh by the way you've got a huge event coming up. And I think that putting your own stuff at the top of the site so prominently because you happen to run this site is toeing the line of inappropriate self-promotion, if not crossing it. And yes, I'm ranting.

@starshine That last post on ED was about groups NEWLY ADDED OR CHANGED on the map. It was not a list of all groups. If it was a list of all groups, it would have been three times the size. Now, if you feel that I have somehow failed to provide you with assistance, take that issue up with me privately, via email, and we can work on it. As for the conflict of interest statement, I can agree with that, and-- though I am fairly certain I am under no legal or ethical constraint to do so-- I am removing the ad from the top of the page, just in the interest of not being a blowhard.

@purpletinker No, leave it up there, it's like the flagship meetup, when you get members of the shows crew to drop by and hang out you get to hang the ad where ever you bloody well like.

@purpletinker Okay, I'll accept that. I asked you back on August 7 when you'd be available to chat about a few things, but didn't get a reply - and likewise for a couple of emails I've sent to you about some little suggestions for this site. I would have liked to keep this private (and also less bitter), but it seems this is the only way to reliably get a response from you. (Also, I totally meant July in that last post.)

@eaglehooves Sethisto regularly makes posts about upcoming events in existing groups. You should keep him apprised of upcoming events. What I post about is NEW groups.

@starshine I have been extremely busy, between having a full-time job, attending the 45th anniversary Star Trek convention, planning brony conventions and minimeets, updating the bronies.com map, and being sick as a dog. I am only one person. Believe me, I wish that it were otherwise.

@ponydude2143 Well, yeah, BroNYCon is pretty awesome. But you know what makes it awesome? Not me. The attendees and, of course, the amazing Guests of Honour. But still, I don't want everypony thinking I'm a total jackhole, so I took down the ad.

@starshine Well, I wouldn't mind if you wanted to take over updating the map pages. That's a chore that I'm sure you're up to. It involves heavy use of The GIMP or Photoshop (I use the former).

@purpletinker I saw that. For what it's worth, I'm with you on this one. It's just I haven't seen anything about this weekend in the Nightly Roundups, which seems to be fairly standard for meetups. He usually tosses in some copypaste towards the end, and if he did for this, I missed it.

@eaglehooves Promoting upcoming events for existing meetups to Sethisto isn't my bailiwick. I pimp NEW groups and CHANGED groups to help them grow, and by linking to the map AT ALL from EquestriaDaily, I draw in plenty of new users for all the groups. But I don't have the time to maintain a list of all upcoming events for all groups. We have OVER 50 GROUPS. I can't possibly keep track of all of the events for all of them, so when I make a post saying "hay guise, here are some new groups!" and then I get people whinging "butbutbut the group from East Carolina didn't get a mention!", it kind of grinds my gears, numsayin?

@starshine That was Sethisto's introduction. It was even more confusing before I had him revise it to add "list of changes made". My original email to him was quite clear that this was AN UPDATE and only AN UPDATE. Seriously, now you're getting on me for things Sethisto wrote.

@purpletinker I saw that, I was just thinking that I hadn't seen the Ohio meetup copypasted in a nightly roundup, and thought somepony from the group should call attention to that. Turns out it was in number 68, and I just had missed it. Combined with not being able to communicate too clearly at 1am and everything else that's going on, that kind of spiraled away from my intent back there. Just wanted to make sure we hadn't forgotten as a group, not to grind your gears over it.

@starshine What I sent Sethisto was not confusing. What he posted was. The guy's tired. Give him a break. And give me a break too; I didn't write the confusing introduction. What I wrote was clear as a bell on being JUST AN UPDATE.

@eaglehooves Quite simply, we CAN'T have a complete list of all meetup groups in every update post on ED. There are dozens of groups worldwide. The list would be so long that nopony would look at it. It'd look more like a page from the phone book than an actual informative list. The whole point of the update posts is to get ponies to click on that nice shiny map, find their nearest group[s], and join it/them.

@purpletinker I know we can't be in every one, I just thought we hadn't been mentioned AT ALL, which had me annoyed. Then I checked, and found we actually had, and felt a bit silly, but the damage had been done. If this weren't in real time, there's a few things I'd like to undash right about now. That, and I may have mixed up a dash intended for somepony in the ohiobronies group with you, just to dig myself a deeper hole.
