@afancorp @tequilasunrise You said you're talking with the company. You're already acting as some sort of proxy. I don't personally want to plan a convention, though, but if you and Tequila or some other Vancouverbrony go for it, I'll keep my eye on it and I'll tell you if any decisions seem ill-planned or anything like that.

@tequilasunrise @afancorp Alright. And I guess charging for tickets wouldn't be too unreasonable if we can keep it cheap, preferably under $20 or so. And for some reason my brain keeps thinking this is something you're planning on doing right away. Roughly when were you thinking this convention would be held? If we want it to be as major as possible it should be at least a few months away.

@BronyMike @afancorp Yeah, I was figuring if we could get people from the show to be involved, that would be a major hook and would probably draw people in from further afield, which would make the con thing more realistic.

@afancorp The fanbase is pretty large, but there are already some pretty large-scale conventions. It seems like a bit of a specific thing to hold a full convention for, at least for just the lower mainland. Northwest Bronyfest was giant and it gathered about 75 people. I was thinking something 2-4 times a year. Either way, I think we're on the same track that it'll need to be something where we can give people time to plan whether or not they can attend and give us some time to gather some attention and get people to know about it. We've got another meetup coming up on Sunday and I expect that realistically, 10-15 people will likely attend, which I'd consider a bit small to base some major convention around. If you're hoping to start up a con, perhaps it could be one for animation fans in general. If you think the company could help us get in contact with people from the show and get them to come as honored guests, that could help, though.

@afancorp Nah.

@afancorp @BronyMike I was assuming if it was something annual and convention-sized there would probably have to be a membership fee just to cover venue and so forth; I've been to on the order of 20 or so (3-day) furry cons and membership is always paid. I'm open to free if there's some way such an event can be free without selling its soul, though.

@tequilasunrise @afancorp BronyMike@DerpyMail.com, however bear in mind that we'd like to keep meetups free to attend, so the meetup company you're contacting won't really make any income off this... It'd be handy if they're able to help us keep track of how many people and who can attend, something similar to meetup.com, and it'd also be cool if they can make the meetup a bit larger-scale, helping us find venues and whatnot, but I think we should keep in mind that we won't want to get overblown. We don't want to have meetups TOO frequently, or we'll have very sparse attendance of each one, as opposed to what I personally think is better, a less frequent meetup that's well-advertised well in advance and is very widely attended.

@afancorp !vancouverbronies For sure, especially given so many of the people involved in the show are here - but I know how much work these things are to put together, as I've been sort of very peripherally involved in the founding of a new furry convention in this area.
