        • @7even @karen AT rifles were mostly phased out as anti tank weapons in late WWII as armor advances made them useless and shoulder fired HEAT projectiles became common, which had a much better chance at penetrating a heavier tank. They started being used against non-combat vehicles to disable engines and against APCs. From 43 onwards there wasn't a tank you could pierce with a rifle. Maybe an M10's turret but you could also throw a grenade into it.
Funnily enough it'd be useful against poorly protected modern tanks like the M1 Abrams if not because they have heat sensors and gun ranges of over 2km.

            • @7even @karen In 39-40 most tanks had up to 30mm of armor and were really boxy. "weak spots" weren't much of a thing since all sides had roughly the same armor so hitting side, front or back didn't make much of a difference as long as you didn't hit at a steep angle.
The only thing you couldn't kill back then with a 20mm AT rifle was a KV-2

              • @karen A lot of AT rifles had skies actually. You need to maximize surface contact to try to soak the impact into the ground and not the soldier's shoulder.

                              • @awl @sim @rice I've completely avoided substances and tried to work on it with strong emotional triggers, specially in romantic stuff. It has shown decent success but really I don't expect to reach the levels of an openly emotional person at this point in my life. To do that I'd have to give up on control altogether and revert to living completely emotionally as I did when I was <10 and that might feel nice when it comes to positive emotions but it'd be overall a great way to cherry up my life and get rid of one of my main advantages.
Also when I do get into a rage I do it very badly so it's not exactly safe either, don't want to stab someone because I've had a really bad week and end up in jail over nothing.

                                  • @sim @thatbrickster @rye @rice @shmibs Well, it's not something I can turn on or off as that's how my emotions work now. It'd take years to just start to change it and I don't feel it'd be worth it to potentially screw up my emotional matrix for it.

                                                • @sim @thatbrickster @rice It never works out. Whenever I'd talk with a girl I was interested in back when I was 17 and she was 16, and she was with her friends, I'd spend more time replying to their teasing and attempts at being witty either by themselves or using the girl I wanted to talk with in the first place as proxy than actually talking with her.
And considering it's very rare that females would go anywhere in highschool without their pack of friends one on one conversations were restricted to online or asking her out somewhere.

                                                  • @rice @thatbrickster @sim @rye @shmibs Well, my emotional mess was unrelated to puberty and before 11 so by the time I hit puberty I was pretty used to juggling and soothing emotions. Would have probably ended up autistic if I didn't learn how to do it by 12. Ended up filtering emotional response through conscious reasoning to handle it which is not a very orthodox way to handle it and makes it hard to have strong feelings about things but it's really good at keeping a cool head under stress and certainly better than being completely unable to handle it.
Also related to why I tend to prefer girls that have a hard time masking their emotions, since it's hard enough for me to get a strong emotional response to stuff it's refreshing to see someone who gets excited over little things.

                                                    • @thatbrickster @sim @rice I'd hang out with older people as a kid and teenager because it was very hard to mantain a proper conversation with people my age. As I got older that changed into talking with anyone who wants to chat since I was no longer limited to meatspace so the likelihood of meeting young people who weren't idiots increased a lot.
