@minti Deus ex machinas are common when someone manages to kill the campaign. With my OP paladin I wanted to wipe out the royal family which was a major plot point of the campaign because to resurrect an evil god the baddies needed a member of it. By character strenght and resources I could have easily done it but the DM came up with excuses.

@minti You just have to carefully break the system. Also depends on your DM. The one with which I usually play when I'm with my friends sticks stupidly tight to classes, while I as a DM let players become walking gods as long as they're able to justify how they learned their abilities. For example if some dude is playing a mage and he has 14 str, a soldier friend who can teach him, and a couple months I'll let that character use martial weapons and heavy armor. Same with a barbarian with >12 int and mage friends for learning magic.

@minti At one point I was going to make a bard subclass, the lazy bum, for ADnD. It would rely on charisma, intelligence and luck to succeed with the lowest amount of effort possible and no useful abilities.
