  4. In # v.36 in addition to a number of new events (activities/messages), notifications now show an Account (in a case a notification is for one account only) and time, when the last event occurred. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/3966697

  5. # v.36.01 "Activities instead of messages, and enhancements of Notifications" is published at an Open Beta testing channel, see https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/456
As there are lots of changes, your help in updating translations is needed https://crowdin.com/project/andstatus
    What's new:
    1. This is a major change of AndStatus, which is available for Android 7.0+ devices only and which may require quite a long database upgrade on the first run after the upgrade.
    2. The whole internal data model of the application has changed from working with "messages" to working with "activities", allowing to present social networks in a richer way and to solve many old problems. E.g. after reblogging of a message the message doesn't "jump" to the top of a timeline, as before: now you see a new "Reblog action" for this message at the top the timeline.
The same for Like/Favorite and Follow/"Stop following" actions.
Usage of this feature to its full potential requires its support in a Social network. As of now only Pump.io fully supports activities; Mastodon sends activities in its "Notifications" timeline only.
For legacy server timelines that contain messages only, AndStatus also presents Reblogs as activities, because a "Reblog" _is_ an action even in "Twitter-like" implementations. "Messages" from legacy timelines are interpreted as Update actions of these messages.
    3. Direct messages and timelines renamed to Private with corresponding changes in their content.
    4. "Notifications" timeline added, which shows activities that are configured to be notified about in AndStatus Settings -> Notifications. You can be notified about: Followers, Favorites, Mentions, Reblogs, unset messages in the Outbox and about Private messages.
    5. Notifications, shown in Android Notification area and in the AndStatus Widget, are not forgotten anymore. These notifications are persisted even after device reboot. Notifications are reset when a User opens correspondent timeline e.g. by clicking on the Notification or a Widget. # and #
In addition to a number of new events (activities/messages), notifications now show an Account (in a case a notification is for one account only) and time, when the last event occurred. #
6.For Twitter messages character limit increased up to 280 characters. #
    7. Dropped support for older Android devices. Minimal supported Android version is 7.0 now. This change allows application developers to start using modern Java 8 language enhancements, including functional programming. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/3966689

  6. @hier Current version of # is 35.06, and it can be used for Android devices v.4.4+ as long as you need.
Next version will be for newer devices/firmware, and this is natural cause of software evolution.
Sadly, but I also had to buy new tablet for myself in order to use newer applications...

  7. @xrevan86 In short, the decision to switch to # 7.0 minimum was made to motivate me, @yvolk - developer of #, to continue active improvement of this # application.
I am a professional Java/Scala developer, and as a majority in our profession I need to keep my skills up-to-date. Starting from Android 7, developers can use all new and trending features of Java 8 and modern application approaches, including functional programming. Especially after mastering # I simply cannot use outdated language patterns... As one of my colleagues put it: I simply cannot afford writing for free something that is not a "Cutting edge".
I think that this is not bad for all of us in the long run?!

  9. @nikoofdeath Thanks. Hope that you have at least Android 7.0, because upcoming release of # won't support older firmware.
BTW in Android 8.1 news I read that this newest version of # could be run on devices with only 1GB or RAM...

This is wrong. # is a server-to-server protocol, # connects to servers using server-to-client protocols. This is why AndStatus doesn't know and doesn't depend on OStatus protocol.
Moreover, # 's client-to-server protocol is still based on outdated Twitter like API, not on #, unfortunately.

    Sunday, 22-Oct-17 06:55:18 UTC from gs.kawa-kun.com
  17. @regentaenzer Yes, please test again.
By the way, you can create a backup of # data, including accounts (but without images) in Settings -> Storage, then reinstall AndStatus and do any tests, and after all your tests reinstall again and Restore that backup on the first launch of AndStatus. This is why I personally still use the same AndStatus's database that I created several years ago: I restore the last backup in a case of problems...

    Tuesday, 17-Oct-17 05:34:04 UTC from loadaverage.org
  18. @regentaenzer I added "quit.im" Social network to # by typing just "quit.im" and pressing Add button.
Then I tried to add an account to that Social network not han having correct credentials: I got "401 Unathorized" error message, as expected.
Then I registered at quit.im and tried to add this new account: it was successfully added, no freezing or restarts.
So I couldn't reproduce the problem, unfortunately. https://loadaverage.org/attachment/3821325

    Monday, 16-Oct-17 06:05:32 UTC from loadaverage.org
  19. @regentaenzer 1. When # crashes, special (#) module intercepts the crash and opens a pop-up dialog, allowing a User to send a Crash Report to a Developer via email. See a screenshot in this issue for example: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues/272
    2. I want to find out, what caused a crash in your case, but information that you provided is not enough to be sure that I'm doing exactly what you did, when you encountered the crash. Please note that there are thousands of AndStatus users, and I didn't receive similar reports for a long time. So can you figure out that what you _exactly_ do, or maybe your phone, are quite unusual.
The best way to solve the problem is to start with creating a new issue at https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/issues attaching screenshot(s) and writing exact steps to reproduce the crash, please.

  22. @andstatus At the present time there is no alternative which can possibly unite the free web. The only way I can see to move forward is for projects to support multiple protocols into the foreseeable future.

There are some interesting developments in the works. Unlike ActivityPub, I believe that discussing any alternatives before there are solid specifications and tested implementations would be foolish.

I will note that the basis for ActivityPub is ActivityStreams2, which is a well designed and extensible specification. It is however merely a serialisation and not a transfer protocol. If you paired ActivityStreams2 with a solid transport protocol you would have something useful. So supporting ActivityStreams2 is still a good idea. Unfortunately, ActivityPub frequently confuses data and transport and puts a lot of additional constraints on the data which aren't present in AS2. Keeping the AP data restrictions separated from the lower AS2 data layer so that the transport layer can be cleanly replaced is a bit of a challenge.

  25. @FuzboleroXV 1. allows you to see messages from all Social Networks even in one timeline.
    2. You can respond to a message as any of your accounts of _the same Social Network_.
For Pump.io, accounts in all instances belong to the Single Social network. For Mastodon - only accounts on the same instance: because of outdated client API. More details +discussion with @Gargron here:

  27. I decided to drop support of Android versions before v.5.0 in the future releases of # This will allow to start cleaning code from outdated solutions and components... Android v.4 devices currently amount to less than 13% of active devices, which have AndStatus installed, according to Google Play only because I was unaware that the same buggy release was published by F-Droid also. Only several hours later one of users, who reported a crash of v.26.03, told me, that he installed it from F-Droid... I created special release tag for F-Droid in AndStatus source code repository, but I don't know, when it will be published by F-Droid.

  29. @lnxw48a1 You could try: 1. Set your desired non-combined timeline as a Default one (in Manage Timelines)
    2. Open # via its shortcut, not via its Widget or a Notification. That way the Default timeline will be opened.

  30. @itsumonotakumi First of all, # has FAQ, which allows to search for answers and to ask new questions: https://github.com/andstatus/andstatus/wiki/FAQ
The change log lists features, added during the last six years, with links to detailed descriptions in corresponding development tickets: http://andstatus.org/changelog.html
Regarding concrete features, which are marked as missed. Just from the top of my mind:
    1. Drafts: You can "Save draft" during editing (see a diskette icon above with this tooltip). Plus, AndStatus has "Drafts timeline" whist lists all drafts chronologically like in any email application. Any draft can be edited or discarded, naturally.
How this could be overlooked, if you specifically searched for this feature?
    2. Timeline filters. There is more than one way to have filtered timeline:
2.1 Search for one or several words. Resulted filtered timeline can be even made syncable! (see Manage timelines menu item)
2.2. See "Filters" section in Settings.
Do you think that an interested User won't notice any of these ways to filter a Timeline?
