  1. Hey #, got some cool !musicians for me to follow? I know there's been a whole bunch in the recent migration, and I've found a few already, but I'm sure I've missed many more!

  2. @maiyannah @deadsuperhero this sounds bang on. Hopefully other coders active in # / # dev using PHP will join you

  3. @thatbrickster #, #, and #, form the # (federating using vanilla #), along with #

  4. @algot the people you follow/ @mention and get followed/ @mentioned by across the whole # are what determine your user experience

  5. @deadsuperhero this piece is mostly a history of the #, written for new # users wanting to understand its origins

  6. @cdllm I'm watching from the cheap seats with the rest of you ;) Better to ask the app devs active on the #

  7. @algot true. Once @wogan adds support for other # servers (# etc), it could be a place to jump into the wider # too

  8. @wogan so far I only know of one other live app (#) that supports # in a way compatible with # and the #

    Monday, 17-Apr-17 10:09:08 UTC from quitter.se
  9. @wakest thanks for the clarification. Threading in the # gets a bit wonky in general ;)

  10. Check out these beautiful visualizations of # instances. @ wogan intends to eventually map the whole #

  11. @wogan nice work. I'm presume you're familiar with # org, what's your point of difference?

  12. @wogan I think the actual # protocol is a variant of # but not compatible with the # # use of OStatus?

  13. I'm working on a blogpost to explain the federated timeline, user accounts and idea of multiple identities and I could use some quotes and examples from longtime Mastodon/GNUSocial users. When you have an account on multiple instances, why do you do that?
How do you manage these accounts and logins? Is Mastodon thé solution for your identities?

You don't have to name the accounts and you can always DM me if you want to stay anonymous.

  15. Internally, big sites like birdsite are massively distributed databases.

Look at the federation bugs you see on #fediverse. Delays. Glitches. Missing posts.

Twitter has the same issues, because these are fundamentally hard computer science problems. The tinfoil hat brigade sees censorship and conspiracies, where people who know how these things work just see the expected bugs.

  21. I've explored the #fediverse for a week. Now, I know what I need: I want to be allowed to follow EVERYBODY. That's freedom.

    That's why I've changed instance. I've migrated from octodon.social to soc.ialis.me.

Octodon-admin @CobaltVelvet is great. Everything works fine there. But #octodon doesn't allow me f. ex. to follow folks from sealion.club

However, thx, AliceVoidstar ! Sans rancune.

soc.ialis.me doesn't block instances. Thanks @href Find me here: @stephanmaus

  25. The way to reintegrate the # is not to implement OStatus in pump.io, but to implement # in pump.io and GNU Social and derivatives. pump.io does have AP implementation as a goal.

    # and # will be the first implementations, from the looks of it.
