Based on what he said at the time, he felt that it was too difficult to evolve #OStatus's component specs (mostly designed & controlled by Google) once Google decided that #federation and interoperability in the social space was no longer desirable (coincides with the launch of #GPlus). On top of that, his company was losing money (at one point, it was ad-supported, but users rebelled against the most lucrative ad provider, Google), and most SN users relied upon him for zero-price hosting.

En el resto de nodos diferentes a gnusocial.net es buena cosa ejecutar o poner en cron el script plugins/OStatus/scripts/ updateOStatusprofile.php (quizás el nombre no es exactamente ese). Ahora mismo me sale la gente de gnusocial. net (las nuevas cuentas registradas) con avatar 'by default' de la interfaz quitter. Sort of off-topic, but the owner of that site was saying he might not renew hosting when that time comes. We do need to make sure such documentation for !gnusocial and related things (such as #OStatus) is available elsewhere, too.

I understand the description of "federation" (which I added in the wiki as basically): technically, "we use the !ostatus protocol to do this and that" (it's imported, mainly from @tobias ). #fediverse, as you say is not a protocol, it's a community. What others think of the term "federation" is probably something very similar like the !fediverse

@zoowar I didn't like the suicidal groupware redirection of #StatusNet 1.0 ("Social networking for the Enterprise"). Waiting for #GNUSocial to undo that mess, or another full(ish) implementation of #OStatus to emerge. (I have no coding time available for the next 3+ years.)

yes, it's a known bug (also in SN). if users A and B are talking, but B is not followed by someone on your instance C you don't see B's posts. there are some exceptions like: when B writes to someone on C directly (then !ostatus does it correct), ...
