  1. @lambadalambda @lnxw48 # was partially # compatible.

  2. Based on what he said at the time, he felt that it was too difficult to evolve #'s component specs (mostly designed & controlled by Google) once Google decided that # and interoperability in the social space was no longer desirable (coincides with the launch of #). On top of that, his company was losing money (at one point, it was ad-supported, but users rebelled against the most lucrative ad provider, Google), and most SN users relied upon him for zero-price hosting.

  3. @zoowar What I really would have liked is to develop an # module for #, so I can microblog from my blog. Maybe one day, but I'm a full-time unpaid freelance academic at the moment.

  19. I understand the description of "federation" (which I added in the wiki as basically): technically, "we use the !ostatus protocol to do this and that" (it's imported, mainly from @tobias ). #, as you say is not a protocol, it's a community. What others think of the term "federation" is probably something very similar like the !fediverse

  22. @zoowar I didn't like the suicidal groupware redirection of # 1.0 ("Social networking for the Enterprise"). Waiting for # to undo that mess, or another full(ish) implementation of # to emerge. (I have no coding time available for the next 3+ years.)

  26. yes, it's a known bug (also in SN). if users A and B are talking, but B is not followed by someone on your instance C you don't see B's posts. there are some exceptions like: when B writes to someone on C directly (then !ostatus does it correct), ...
