@ricardus I installed Debian Jessie on a couple of 8-10 year old Dell and Lenovo laptops without weird issues. I use either FVWM or IceWM

I enjoyed playing the piano this evening. Picked up a couple of tunes from 1980's... "Only you" yazoo, and "small town boy" - bronski beat

-
@breton Fritzboxes are very beginner-friendly and have a couple of convenient features: built-in dsl modem, DECT, usb host (print server)
-
@breton if you have a modern voip tariff (no more analogue or isdn fone) the fritzbox 7430 for €99 is a good choice

@breton DSL needs only 2 wires and they are present in either socket. Historically F is for Fernsprecher (phone) and N for Fax, etc.
-
@breton Neither from octo- nor mastodon here, but I'll still reply: N and F are electrically the same.

One thing which nobody is paying attention to is that LetsEncrypt - a public benefit corporation based in California and run by eight people - has become a single point of failure. If LetsEncrypt were to suddenly go away for some reason there would be a lot of trouble.

@veer66 won't help you much but in German it's a bit easier: Rhythmus is just pronounced "Ritt Muss" :-)

@bob …so I will definitely buy my next flash cards / drives from "traditional shops". So far bought 2 from reichelt.de and they still work
-
@bob most if not all of my failed flash drives were from #Amazon (not -Marketplace). Some micro sd cards didnt even last a year in my phones
-
@bob I had also failures with Sandisk, 1 usb drive and ~3 micro sd cards.
-
@bob I've had many usb flash drive failings recently. And I use them with fat32/ntfs. Even big brands but maybe it's Amazon selling crap.

#sheffield Council chamber has been occupied by the people. There is much dissent in the city, over the running and financing of a road renewal program. The program involves chopping down thousands of healthy trees. Sheffield has (had?) a reputation of being one of the greenest cities in the #UK. Also the contractual arrangements around the program are opaque and no allowed to be shared with the people !!!! ??? Which is another cause of anger.

@bob flash or hdd? (only just noticed you said "flash controller" in the initial post)
-
@bob what drive model is that? And what issues occur? I set up a lot of 4TB usb drives with ext4. No issues noticed so far.

there were quite a few BBC Masters at my high school from 1986 onwards (replacing Model B's).
The numeric keyboard had * and # like a phone (for viewdata). They were networked, I coded a RAT using one which I concealed using the start screen of a legit wordprocessing app, a * would reload the (legit) WP screen (if a teacher was watching), # was the RAT control menu (it could even look into keyboard buffers of any other machine and thus obtain passwords) ???? ???? ????????
