  8. @bakasenpai It's all in the context though, you didn't at all come off as polite or helpful, just snobby (especially considering the correction was entirely unnecessary). I'm not offended at all, just kind of mildly annoyed. The whole "I responded because you did" argument works both ways as well. And I'm sorry if I came off as defensive to you or if you've gotten upset, I'm just trying to be objective.

  9. @bakasenpai Word.

  10. @bakasenpai Well I just wrote kohai instead of kōhai because it was an offhanded comment that wasn't meant to be taken all seriously, and I've seen kouhai before as far as I know it's just a morphological translation of the same word.

  11. @bakasenpai You literally told me I was a pleb for not writing it your special way. You were just as much a factor of making a big deal out of it as I was as well. I didn't think it was a big deal but you kept responding, also I already explained why I felt you were being pompous.

  12. @bakasenpai I've never seen, read, or heard it being used in that context. And I have several sources which use the spelling of kohai in the context of junior.

  13. @bakasenpai Because your correction is unnecessary, and your need to do so anyway comes off as pompous. As for you speaking the language and living in Japan, that really comes down to the reliability of your word, and I haven't found any sources that have backed up what you've been saying about that particular word.

  14. @bakasenpai That's different though, the hato examples would be the japanese equivalent of homonyms whereas the kohai example is merely word morphology. Those two hato are read the same but have different meanings, but the kohai/kouhai scenario has no intrinsic differences.

  15. @bakasenpai You're coming off as incredibly snide, and so far your reasoning seems unjustified.

  16. @bakasenpai A bit of back research has shown that こうはい translates to kohai, and is just a variation of 後輩. And are you saying that any programming I've seen where they pronounce it as "koh-hai" is wrong and I'm supposed to pronounce it "koo-hai" because I've literally never heard that, anywhere. Also, to my knowledge 小杯 is shohai and is completely unrelated.

  18. @bakasenpai Yeah, but you still haven't explained why I specifically need to type "kouhai" instead of "kohai". To my knowledge they're both accepted romaji akin to that of "grey" and "gray" in English, but you're being totally snobby about it for whatever reason.

  19. @bakasenpai That's totally different though, spanish and english use the same lettering system. My point is that it's not really necessary which spelling of kohai you use because they're both accepted phonetic translations of words that wouldn't even be written that way to begin with.

  22. @bakasenpai Also, does it honestly matter which way I type the word in English? Both are just phonetic translations of a Japanese word normally represented by a kanji.
