@rotation Ah... those heady days when we only had a synopsis, a rumour, and a doomy looking OC pony to go on.

@rotation BTTF 3?
-
@rotation STABBING PEOPLE! (aka: I refuse #SeriousDiscussionTime)
-
@rotation No, seriously though... (As much as I do love the BTTF movies) I think it'd probably be easier to pick one per genre, and there's a lot of variation based on mood. But, being restricted for the sake of conversation to one-and-only-one film I will say "The Secret of NIMH." It's got marvelous animation, a solid balance of humor and adventure, genuine relatable emotions, and (I'll be honest) a high-powered nostalgia factor. Even if the story has its holes. #seriousdiscussiontime

@rotation I say that Metropolis (1929) is a far more influential film.
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives Good morning
-
@broniebrown Have you seen the restored version they just found a couple years ago?
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives How are you doing on this lovely morning Jonathan?
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives Not what I asked, but exciting nonetheless.
-
@colfax Yes! I've seen it live on television while an orchestra performed live to the film. It was gorgeous. I saved the HD version on my hard drive.
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives There's some evil pony named Dischord that does evil stuff and ponies and stuff. (Clearly I know a lot about what's going on)
-
@loak quite
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives That promo was fanmade, wasn't it?
-
@broniebrown I'm waiting for it to come out on DVD, I need that one for the collection.
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives Unless we're not talking about the same video.... Link?
-
@rotation That would be amazing.
-
@applebloomsarepetalknives Ohhhh ok, I understand now.
-
@rotation It is clearly a sci-fi. This film shows an alternate society structure, an avant-garde style of architecture and technology not seen before like an android. But of course it is a political, society-driven plot. An upper-class man in a forbidden love with a lower-class woman.
-
@broniebrown @rotation It's considered to be the great grandfather of modern sci-fi, and it's influence can be clearly seen in countless movies.
-
@rotation I second this! This would be really awesome in all regards. And fabulous!
-
@broniebrown Right now TCM is showing a few Geore Melies movies, century old scifi, gotta love it.
-
@rotation Oh no, of course not, I have the book it was based on and that's even more political,
-
@rotation What is purely sci-fi? Every story can't live without the usual story elements seen in other movies. Sci-fi only dictates the setting the protagonists act in. The sci-fi setting is usually in an alternate society structure in a different time/time-line than ours. There is often technology involved in.
-
@rotation I can see your problem. Metropolis isn't obviously a sci-fi. We are used to see sci-fi as flicks that take place in space or in dystopian futures. Back then it was the definition of sci-fi. Skyscrapers as high as the sky itself. Machines everywhere. A city-wide surveillance system. Robots. Planes that fly through the city. Times changes. Sci-fi changes. But I think we know each other's point of view about this.
-
@rotation I'm honestly not too keen on that film personally. Besides the story with HAL it failed to invest me or even interest me ,I do understand its impact on film as a medium, but to me it seems like it was more of a special effects demonstration, a very impressive one for the time ,but still. (A popular online critic by the name of Confused Matthew shares my opinion on the film, but he's...a bit more sarcastic with the delivery of said opinion ,but yeah)
