I'd love an apologetic gilda episode too , considering hasbro is moulding episodes from number 3 onwards with the fanbase in mind, would they dare have gildadash be explored further? Would they dare be the first possible pro gay characters in a show like this?

@purplephish20 That last part: not a chance. Despite all the progress made in the past 20 years or so, most production companies still find it undesirable to put homosexual characters in contexts where children can see them, which not only underestimates the kids but also treats homosexuality like some kind of disease.

@thelastgherkin I'd probably have more an issue with this if the show as a whole didn't focus on the more platonic end of the things.

@pawnheart Well, mostly. If you squint and miss Spike's crush on Rarity and Rarity's planned romance with Blueblood.

@thelastgherkin Which is what i was thinking, the positive reaction hasbro would get from tolerence groups would outnumber angry comments from christmurdocks complaining that it "destroys family values"

@purplephish20 Oh my yes. Don't get me wrong, I think it would be absolutely fantastic if it happened. I just can't see it happening.

@purplephish20 OH a further example: remember like a month or so ago when the internet tried to make Sesame Street acknowledge Bert and Ernie as a gay couple? That would have been awesome if it had happened, but the Muppet Corp. didn't agree because it didn't want homosexuals in their cast of children's characters.

@thelastgherkin See, I'm pretty pro-gay, but I don't think the world needed Bert and Ernie to be gay.

@ceruleanspark Well... why should they be? In many respects I think it reflected poorly that some folk were like... 'dude, they live together, they've just got to be gay! It says so in my big book of divisive, paranoia-induced stereotypes.'

@thelastgherkin It would have been like when J.K Rowling turned around and was like OH BTW DUMBLEDORE IS A GAY LOL

@ceruleanspark "See, I'm pretty pro-gay," he said to his fake internet boyfriend. But if I'm honest, there are parts in the Deathly Hallows book that said to me, "Wait what is Dumbledore gay?" So that didn't surprise me.

@thelastgherkin I mean the way it was handled I didn't like. He might BE gay but just turning around after you're done writing and saying that a character with absolutely no "on-screen" relationships is gay retroactively is not good storytelling.

@ceruleanspark Well, there are those little origami unicorns engaging in homosexual intercourse that are left everywhere... so I guess it was hinted at.

@thelastgherkin Weeell... from what I heard, it seems that the writers just thought it was irrelevant in the context of the show. I can see that in MLP too (with the whole Candy apples thang)... to be honest, I really don't think there is much nobility in crudely typecasting Dashie as a lesbian, so she can become a symbol for gay rights... SHE ISN'T INHERENTLY ANYTHING.
Monday, 26-Sep-11 09:24:08 UTC from web-
@pawnheart That just... annoys me. Oh, look, Rainbow Dash is a lesbian NO SHE ISN'T. Being a tomboy doesn't equate with her sexuality. Grr.

@thelastgherkin Though if they ever give Dashie a Bieber cut, they might have a stronger case : http://lesbianswholooklikejustinbieber.tumblr.com/

@thelastgherkin Exactly. I was rather disappointed at the double standards of the writer who condemned the show for stereotyping, while ASSUMING Rainbow Dash was gay.

@thelastgherkin May have to frequently Redash this, For Dash. Dashie, you are whatever feels right for you.

@thelastgherkin Monica in Friends: 'so thats why you two used to lock yourselves in your room for hours on end... must admit, I'm kind of relieved' (audience laughs) Ross: 'Oh, we did that too. Would it really be so inherently disgusting? Do you know what makes ME sick Monica? do you?! The fact that the relationship between us and our friends is based on sarcastic banter. I may be gay, but at least I'm not mildly overweight. THAT would be disgusting'. (Okay, maybe Ross didn't say that)
