@mushi And a good phone, too.
-
@nerthos i never had this phone
-
@mushi Same here. But those things were far better than the "Hurr durr little computer" ones from the late years.
-
@nerthos anything That is right. So many times my cell phone flew hight when i was going to see if it was under the blanket but it was OVER the blanket. These new phones wouldnt work for me

@mushi Mine is a hybrid between one of those glorious indestructible ones, and a new one. Motorola a1200. Endured a couple of falls from 1.6mts and hits.
-
@nerthos that is mine. its is good for me, since it doesnt break and has alarm clock http://ur1.ca/7hypr
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@mushi The only two things needed on a phone xD
-
@nerthos Nice... I have a Nokia Nuron 5230 that survived a fall out of my pocket, being in melting snow for 2 hours, and still working perfectly.
-
@the20percent The problem with those is that if they fall in a certain way, the screen is destroyed. And they are useless without a screen.
-
@nerthos Then there's those that are near useless with a screen...
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@nerthos they have a protective rim around it, so if it falls face down (as it did), then unless it falls on a bed of nails, its going to survive
-
@the20percent A pointy stone is enough xD
-
@nerthos Yes! and i can make it's battery last a whole month since i dont always remember turning it on lol
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@nerthos Well, a pointy stone is always enough XD
-
@the20percent If mine falls face down on a pointy stone, the acrylic breaks. Then I just glue it or buy a new one for $5 xD
-
@nerthos Nice... I already had the LCD break... set me back $25, plus $20 for service. and I think I'll get a new battery, as this one can't hold a charge by now (I spend WAY too much time on youtube), though my contract ends in May, so I can just wait till I can get either a Motorola RAZR or a Samsung Galaxy S II
-
@the20percent I use Youtube on my pc or netbook.
-
@nerthos @the20percent that is reminding me whem a friend from the college was telling about when she dropped her iphone in the toilet
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@nerthos really? I use youtube on my phone, and my laptop as an MP3 player... Its very portable, only 7 pounds!
-
@mushi Well, being anti-apple, that's where I'd store an iPhone... so what's the problem?
-
@the20percent it was an accident. She said she read that you can fix it if you put the phone in a pot of rice for some days. Looks like it worked XD
-
@mushi salt also works... osmotic pressure tends to absorb water too :/
-
@the20percent I use alarm, messages and phone on my phone. And MP3 player sometimes.
-
@mushi Silica gel is the best option. Well, dismounting it and leaving it to dry for six hours is the best method.
-
@the20percent we know, we are chemistry students \o/! But it was before we get in the college, and i think its easier to fill a big pot with rice than with salt
-
@nerthos Yeah, mine is just a odd looking pocketwatch I have to keep recharging.
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@mushi This time of year you can get road & sidewalk salt on the cheap. That's an option.
-
@eaglehooves not in brasília O=
-
@mushi but.. but.. salt is more fun :O After you're done with your phone, you can use that same pot to hold your pet snail, and you don't even have to remove the salt.
-
@mushi *facehoof* Oh yea...
-
@colfax There are some functions in modern phones that are just... too much. You can't put a whole computer into a phone, just beause it has size limitations, so you're stuck with a little screen, making watching videos, images, or reading ebooks a pain. So, best option is a real phone and a netbook or something like that.
-
@nerthos probably she didnt want to tell it to her parents, and most of people dont have silica gel in their houses. But If it was now, we could steel it from the labs of the college XD
-
@the20percent nope, i do not like this
-
@thatonepony yeah, you're right... I think I needed to remove a little bit of salt to give just a little bit of vertical head room, for that "high cieling" effect... I think they're extremely claustrophobic, cuz they can't last for more than 5 mins in that small bit of space
-
@mushi I have silica gel from my photography stuff and electronics. You can buy silica bags at every photography store I think.
-
@nerthos Mine has a camera but so far all It's been used for it to take a pic of the card that came with the Twilight blind bag pony and use it for the wallpaper.
-
@nerthos i'd never know, but i'm not into photography. I only have used silica gel to make some chromatography stuff
-
@colfax I use mine to take pics of cats and low res ones of drawings to upload to facebook and avoid all that copyright thing.
-
@mushi I use it to stop delicate things from ruining.
-
@nerthos what's a copyright? Hold on, my torrent's done
-
@the20percent Something about "If you're idiotic enough to upload something you own to the internet, you lose it"
-
@nerthos XD If you upload something to the internet, you might as well as make it freeware
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@nerthos silica is fun, Good thing it is cheap, this way i can play with it in the lab and not fell so guilty
-
@the20percent That's why I'm careful not to upload anything embarassing
-
@mushi I don't know too much about chemistry. What's interesting to do with it?
-
@delc17 Heh
-
@delc17 Usually it's your friends that do it for you.
-
@nerthos well, according to the internet, mixing bleach with ammonia is totally awesome, and if you mix rust with aluminium powder, then its totally safe to light in your lap...
-
@eaglehooves I've had a few close calls. There was that girl with the sailor moon outfit and the.........um, forget i said that
Milo likes this. -
@the20percent Yeah, that's true. But I don't know how to have fun with silica.
-
@nerthos Oh, well, if you remove the oxygen from silica, and mix in some arsenic, you get the base material for computer chips...
-
@nerthos you can use it to make chromatographic plates (i dont know if this is the right name in english) and zeolits (a kind of catalyst) But i think it is a fun thing to use because of its consistency
-
@mushi The only thing I know about it, is that if you make a guy eat some, he dies.
-
@nerthos well, i think that is enough for a normal daily life XD
-
@nerthos I also know that if you make that stuff, you can melt enough of that material into a container, in which you can hold saltpeter, and essentially create a boom just by attaching the container to the circuit
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@mushi I mostly learn how to use things to kill other things.
-
@mushi *shudders* every time i hear the phrase daily life or normal life, i remember the manga "Mai chan's daily life" which is sick and insanely violent and disturbing and wrong wrong wrong
-
@delc17 i've never read that, i now i now i shouldnt.
-
@nerthos you evil
-
@mushi Nope, just... dangerous.
