    2. @macpony55 make a 4 way headphone jack tomorrow ... then 5 then 6 then 7 then etc.... xD

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:02:30 UTC from web
      1. @lyokotravels There is room to add, I'll just need to collect some more jacks

        1. @macpony55 OR... build an active headphone splitter using a 9V battery, a couple IC op-amps, and give each jack an individual volume control. ^.^

          1. @forestrain i have a nice gold plated 3-way splutter from radioshack no quality or volume loss whatsoever

            1. @dj9volt With a two-way, you should lose about 3dBm, which is hardly audible. You're still losing signal on both sides though. ;p

          2. @forestrain Hmmm, sounds cool but........nah, even though I've got all the components lying around, too much work

        2. @macpony55 yes collect more (Apple)Jacks xD

          1. @lyokotravels Hmm, so they must somehow relate to Applejack

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:11:01 UTC from web
            1. @macpony55 yahh put the jack on an Apple then you'll have your answer there. #

              1. @lyokotravels so just shove the entire thing into an apple, I can do that

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:14:40 UTC from web
                1. @macpony55 make sure to replace the apple once in a while.

    3. @macpony55 sweet! Something I've wondered.. would the volume decrease when all three are in use.

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:02:40 UTC from web
      1. @pony Not as much as you would think, there is a slight decrease but it's not noticeable unless you compare the two

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:03:25 UTC from web
      2. @pony Technically, it should. Each set of tiny speakers puts resistance on the line, and will decrease the signal.

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:03:34 UTC from web
        1. @forestrain @macpony55 I see. So then would using 2 sets of headphones, for example, produce more volume together than one while they share the same signal or would it be equal?

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:08:01 UTC from web
          1. @pony Based off the way headphones are like resistors then yes two produces more sounds then one while reducing the individual volume only slightly

Thursday, 16-Feb-12 05:10:24 UTC from web
          2. @pony That gets into a comparison between resistance within an audio circuit, and loss of dBm vs dBspl... and the math for that is... not within my brain at the moment. Basic rule of thumb: you'll lose about 3 dBm with two connected, and when putting two speakers of equal volume together, you'll gain about 3dBspl of sound level in air. So, it would be roughly the same volume with two connected and (hypothetically) going into the same set of ears, as one set being connected.

            1. @forestrain thanks for explaining that to me. i learned something new!

              1. @pony No worries. I spent two years and a good deal of money on college for Recording Arts-- need to use the knowledge somehow. ;p How's your poem coming?
