          1. @getacutiemark It's not like I could just go and buy the game that easily xD and even if I could, >$300 is TOO much for a game.

            1. @nerthos it is...

              1. @getacutiemark Exactly. That's why there's no legal game market in this country.

                1. @nerthos screw legal markets, if games and movies were more convenient and cheap, and the entertainment companies gave us less BS, we could actually have legit games and stuff. just make it easy for us, guys!

                  1. @getacutiemark Yup. And there's another problem: translations. Do you know how hard it is to get games in original language here? xDD

                    1. @nerthos probably, idk. depends on where you live.. im not in japan, hehe

                      1. @getacutiemark I'm in Argentina. They mostly sell games in spaish with lame voices. And I'm one of those guys who download a modified version of FFX with the japanese voices xD

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 20:49:34 UTC from web
                        1. @nerthos japanese voices FTW. the localization teams should just save their money and add subtitles..

                          1. @getacutiemark Exactly, they spend thousands, and then everybody says "man, these voices are lame"

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 20:52:54 UTC from web
                            1. @nerthos well, to be fair, Xenoblade Chronicles's voices were quite good. those british accents did provide a lot of personality

                                    2. @nerthos People still use torrents? I thought metalinks were the new way to download stuff.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 20:57:52 UTC from Choqok
                                      1. @omni IDK, torrents work, that's enough xD

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 20:58:40 UTC from web
                                      2. @omni what's a meta-link? A link that changes? Sounds weird if you ask this old-fashioned pony.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:04:02 UTC from web
                                        1. @crusader8 A meta-link contains links from different sources (HTML, FTP, Torrent) and gives them all a number that shows how "good" that link is. This makes it possible to have multiple mirrors in one file and the best available method will be chosen due to it having the highest number.

                                    3. @nerthos how safe is that thing to use without the police knocking on your door? ive downloaded a few things from the pirate bay using but darent anymore...

                                      1. @purplephish20 I'm not even using a proxy. The chances of the police CARING are below 2%, and then coming to my door? add another 2% to the original one.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 20:59:36 UTC from web

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:00:22 UTC from web
                                          1. @purplephish20 I don't know nor do I care xD it's more probable for the game company to send ninjas than the police coming to my door xD

                                            1. @nerthos when I become the head of a game company I am totally hiring a squad of ninjas to combat illegal downloads

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:03:20 UTC from web
                                              1. @trister No, hire someone to cosplay as the main figure from your games, and have them go to peoples doors and tell them to stop downloading him illegally

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:04:02 UTC from web
                                                1. @minti if I was going to do that I'd have them run into the house to escape being chased by the police, then, when asked for an explanation, they can say that they are there illegally because of that download

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:06:08 UTC from web
                                              2. @trister Good luck with that xD I'll keep my sword and railgun ready

                                              3. @trister you could just make a free single player of a game and then if they want multiplayer they need to buy it

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:05:20 UTC from web
                                                1. @rozeluck thats nice...

                                      2. @purplephish20 Torrents and peer-to-peer traffic are the unsafest ways to download see as they broadcast your IP info AND you are uploading as well. I personally use JDownloader for all my downloads. It's slower but legal in Dutch law (we're not allowed to upload copyrighted material, but we're allowed to download it).

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:01:13 UTC from Choqok
                                        1. @omni By that definition, viewing web pages and playing games is unsafe too. Both upload data and send you IP.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:02:19 UTC from web
                                          1. @minti they often aren't illegal though

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:02:45 UTC from web
                                          2. @minti True, but it's different if you're saying "hey, my name is X and I'm walking into the school building at 8 am" or "hey, my name is X and I am robbing a bank". Sure, you're still giving your info in both cases, but they wouldn't care in both cases.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:04:10 UTC from Choqok
                                            1. @omni Ultimately torrenting IS safe, it just depends on the content of the torrent. Sadly most of it /is/ illegal stuff, but there's some legal stuff too! Like games who host torrents to allow you to download the game faster (Like Pando Media Booster. That program sucks though -.-)

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:05:38 UTC from web
                                              1. @minti linux distros can also be "torrented"

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:06:01 UTC from web
                                                1. @getacutiemark According to Microsoft Linux is illegal because it infrights their patents they licensed before software patents existed. Don't ask me how that works, probably just as logical as Windows :P

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:07:46 UTC from Choqok
                                                  1. @omni wait, windows is logical?! gaaaah!!!!

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:08:21 UTC from web
                                                    1. @getacutiemark I am pretty sure I said it isn't logical. That's why I prefer Linux. If something is broken on Linux, it is broken and you need to fix it. If something is broken on Windows, it may or may not be broken, depending on how much the system hates you, but it will definitely go back into the broken state after magically fixing itself in some cases or it will remain broken forever.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:12:39 UTC from Choqok
                                                      1. @omni Just like Microsoft "Plug and Play" webcams.

On Windows it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, sometimes reconnecting works and sometimes I need to reboot completely. On Linux, it just works, even though I don't have drivers for it installed.

                                                          1. @omni I am endlessly pleased that Linux has come far enough that something can be described to "just work" in it when the same is not true in Windows.

Sunday, 04-Mar-12 21:16:43 UTC from web

                          2. @getacutiemark a lot of people wouldn't buy them in that case though, so it makes more financial sense to spend the money on translating, in order to include a wider audience of people who can't be bothered reading subtitles all the time
