It's kind of saddening (for their sake, not mine) that there is a non-zero number of people who would consider me some kind of weird sexual deviant for liking a cartoon about ponies.

@thelastgherkin Hence "for their sake". I know I wouldn't immediately jump to "oh, he's a pervert" (or "oh, he's gay", though I get the impression most folks who see that as a negative consider the two phrases equivalent) as an explanation for an adult male liking cartoons and/or ponies.

@bitshift It tells much that "gay" is seen as an equivalent of "weird" and "pervert" even though people struggled for gay rights for quite a time and some paid with their lifes.

@hakupony From the point of view of biology, it is in certain way weird, tough it's probably a genetically preprogramed breeding control method, triggered by overpopulation.

@nerthos I would not say it is weird because many animals fight very hard for the right to mate and it actually makes sense if some of a group don't participate and stay healthy and strong.

@hakupony Yeah, but I choose to explain it that way, because saying "They're gay because they're too weak to restrain their sexual desire and too lame to find a partner" would make people frown at me.

@nerthos this isn't what I said. My perspective is that individual transmission of genes does not in itself help the survival of a group. Humans are social animals so it does make sense to me.

@hakupony Oh well. I just see it as a way to control populace and/or a fetish/sexual deviation like any other else. As such, I'm ok with it as long as there's no masses of idiots in the streets derping about rights.
