@thatonepony If you have any suggestions -- shoot! ;p I'll take any help I can get in viciously crushing him. ^.^
-
@thatonepony I rhymed battle with "that'll". >.>
Toksyuryel likes this. -
@thatonepony It kinda flows into the next line really fluidly, so it's easily missed, I guess. <_>
-
@thatonepony @forestrain While we're talking about Swagberg, I found this video to be highly educational http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwGVPnGlu10 (slightly #NSFW)
-
@toksyuryel lmao, "Which is hilarious, by the way."
-
@toksyuryel Also, this IS an amazingly helpful video.
-
@forestrain Yeah, for sure ☺
-
@thatonepony Who says "mess-ahhge", honestly!? ;p
-
@thatonepony Also, will do. ;p
-
@forestrain Rhyme something with orange and I'll declare you the winner just for that. Bonus points if you can keep that rhyme going.
-
@toksyuryel Lozenge is the closest I can get, and I'm not even sure how I'd work that pair into any kind of coherent lyrics. :(
-
@forestrain Nerdy does not have to equal "bad with rhymes/rapping", just look at the better parts of Nerdcore. :)
-
@bitshift @forestrain "White n' Nerdy" being the go-to overplayed example. I've heard some classify Mic the Microphone as "nerdcore" but I'm not too sure of that myself (especially with tracks like One Trick Pony).
-
@thatonepony Yeah, I'm not terribly concerned. It's just something for fun that spawned out of our mutual [s]hate for[/s] friendship with one another. ^.^ (Really, we help each other out all the time, but the joke popped up when Cyril did a cover of Join The Herd, and we ran with it. ;p )
-
@toksyuryel I prefer to point people to Frontalot if they've not heard Nerdcore before, he seems to be pretty palatable to a pretty wide range of tastes (including mine). But yeah, as with pretty much every genre, Weird Al has dabbled in it (before the genre even properly existed, in that example, iirc).
-
@bitshift My understand is that track is what really got the genre started, but I just pulled that out of my plot.
-
@thatonepony lmao, I totally missed that you were busting sick rhymes. I think that means it's time for bed. <_>
-
@forestrain Sleep well! *hugs*
-
@toksyuryel It definitely could be considered nerdcore, it's just that nerdcore wasn't even a thing when it initially came out. It set the template for the genre, so to speak, but it was probably later tracks that actually codified it as a genre in its own right.
-
@bitshift So it's the Trope Maker?
-
@toksyuryel Yes, but I was trying to avoid that term, since I wasn't aware how much meaning it would carry for anyone not familiar with TVTropes' terminology.
-
@toksyuryel But yeah, the Maker/Codifier distinction that the TVtropes term carries is what I was aiming for there.
-
@bitshift Oh noooo, TVtropes.
-
@toksyuryel @bitshift "On March 18, 2002, popular webcomic Penny Arcade declared Frontalot their rapper laureate..." whereas "White & Nerdy" didn't come out until 2006. Though, I'll admit, I had to look it up because Weird Al was also the first nerd rap I heard, back on "All About the Pentiums." XD
-
@bitshift Not our problem is *some* people don't want to waste weeks of their life clicking every single bucking link on that site.
-
@scribus Huh, well that's news to me. So I guess it's neither the genre's originator or codifier. Could've sworn it was much older. I do wonder if All About the Pentiums could lay claim to that title, though?
-
@bitshift That released in 1999, and Frontalot was also active then. So I have no idea.
-
@toksyuryel TVTropes is a sickness, but it's one I've learned to love.

@scribus This is a lot more convoluted than my previous knowledge suggested. I give up (for now at least). :(
-
@redenchilada Bingo.
-
@bitshift My knowledge tends to play more in the order of what I discover. History is very much more subjective than objective to me like that.
-
@redenchilada I'm still not quite sure what it does so differently, but I am considerably more prone to wiki-walking on TVT than on, say, Wikipedia.
-
@bitshift It has interesting titles and interesting subject matter. The Tetris Effect seriously applies to me with Stepmania/ITG2.
-
@redenchilada The weirdest Tetris Effect I've had would have to be from Tetris itself. When I first really got hooked on it, I'd find that I'd catch myself playing out essentially meaningless sets of drops in my head, for no other reason than that being where my brain decided to go when left to wander. Not pleasant. :(
-
@redenchilada The only other example I can think of where it's reached TTE levels would be a couple of the stages from Rhythm Paradise/Tengoku Gold/Heaven (delete titles as appropriate based on region).
-
@bitshift I seriously, dead seriously, see rising arrows when I blink now. I also find myself tapping my feet in four-panel patterns to the melody of music.
