I'd like to think that anyone in this room could and may find love at some point, really. Labeling oneself as "asexual" is certainly limiting one to the full experience of being human.

@clayinthecarpet But that depends on your perspective of "being". From an evolutionary standpoint, reproducing is the ultimate form of winning because you're passing on your genes, but is love all there really is to happiness and contentment? Mind you, I'm just playing Devil's Advocate, but in actuality how can we really know we've reached that point of self actualization in the human experience?

@northernnarwhal I didn't say "reproducing"...just sexual encounters. They are pretty darn fun, usually. And they are a VITAL element to a healthy relationship or marriage, no matter how you look at it.

@clayinthecarpet But can you not have relationships without sexual conduct? I have a close friend who's asexual and she's been in a healthy romantic relationship for quite some time now. You don't NEED sexual conduct, and the fun part is subjective to the person in question.

@clayinthecarpet For sexual encounters you require a sexual drive, and as far as I'm aware, asexuality is the lack of a sexual drive. Feeling all the time the way a person feels just after a sexual encounter, completely devoid of lust.

@clayinthecarpet Wow... as an asexual individual... not cool bro

@1pony4all @northernnarwhal @oracle I mean no offense. From my experience, it's hard to keep an intimate relationship going for years (or decades) without intimate sexual contact. I'm sure it's different for different people, but for most folks it doesn't work that way. Tensions start to develop and demands are unfulfilled, then bad things tend to occur. But there are reasons why someone wouldn't want or demand any of that, I guess. I'm just kinda ignorant of all that.

@clayinthecarpet It's cool. I myself am heterosexual but I have several LGBTQA etc friends who have taught me a lot and really opened my mind to the subject of sexuality. With that aside, from my personal experience, if I love someone sexually more than romantically, it's usually less about love and more about infatuation. But as you said, different strokes for different folks.

@northernnarwhal Indeed. I have a transgender friend now, and that's really opened my mind a LOT to that type of subject. I am sure that there's a lot of other stuff about sexuality that I just don't understand yet. No big deal.
Sunday, 01-Dec-13 04:51:52 UTC from web-
@clayinthecarpet Precisely, no biggie. The fact that you can accept that there are still things to learn and that you're willing to learn them speaks wonders about you in a great way.

@oracle Which is totally fine as well. Love is really strange and it will affect many people very differently, or not at all.

@oracle hmmm, jsut to be clear, I am asexual, not aromantic. Just as long as thats clear... UNITE!

@oracle Wait, it's a contest now? :P
Sunday, 01-Dec-13 04:45:36 UTC from web -
@oracle I know, I was kidding. also, in my (limited) experience, romance =/= arousal
Sunday, 01-Dec-13 04:49:04 UTC from web -
@oracle Because I'm pretty sure it's illegal otherwise.
Sunday, 01-Dec-13 04:58:02 UTC from web -
@oracle I don't find you that arrogant to be honest. You're being open about your sexuality and religious beliefs on a public forum and I respect that, regardless of whether or not I share the same orientation and beliefs.
Sunday, 01-Dec-13 04:58:30 UTC from web-
@northernnarwhal I agree.

@oracle I probably should've used the term "morals" or "viewpoints" instead. I didn't mean to imply you had any religious beliefs, sorry about that.
Sunday, 01-Dec-13 05:00:52 UTC from web -
@oracle Yeah, I usually default to that word during conversations with some of my religious friends. I myself am agnostic, but I'd like to think I'm open minded to the religion (or lack thereof) of others.

@oracle By the way, the hot dog you sent earlier was a little dry.

@oracle Don't worry, it was just me being facetious again. I tend to get that way a lot, so you'll have to excuse me.
