I've never understood the concept of buying expensive headphones, shoes, computers, cars etc. when you can get stuff that does almost the exact same thing just as well for so much less. Just doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather buy a limited edition version of a game for the extras or preorder from 3 different stores to get all the preorder bonuses than to buy another headset that works the same for 15x the cost.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Except that different quality headphones, computers and cars are all things that exist? Especially in the last two where the differences are both quantifiable and physical.

@ceruleanspark but my lemon of a car still gets me from point a to point b the same way a ferrari would. It might not look the same or drive the same but it functions the same. My computer might not process a picture as fast or be able to run every game on ultra but I can still play the games and load the picture. That's my thought process at least.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual But you acknowledge that there are people who do need those capabilities? (Well, probably not the Ferrari, but decent computers at least)

@ceruleanspark oh yes certainly I'm just saying that it's not for me and that I personally don't see the need. No doubt there are people out there who do. But there are also plenty of people who don't and get it anyways too.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I'm something of an audiophile so I tend towards higher quality headphones when I can get them. Equally, I'd rather frontload my computer costs and get a overpowered one, then not upgrade it at all for its entire lifetime. (I've been on the same macbook for going on 5 years and going strong)

@ceruleanspark fair enough. I just tend to buy a $500~ laptop every 3 to 4 years when I need to.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual I tend to sell my old kit to family members to recoup part of my outlay as well. There's always a queue of people who want my castoff tablets and laptops. I don't think there's a single MP3 player in my house that I didn't originally purchase.

@ceruleanspark i give my laptops away either through tech donations or to friends who aren't as fortunate or just need a new computer.

@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual Well with the way modern games are you would still need a powerful computer to play it on low with a decent amount of FPS.
