    1. @snowcone or people could have thicker skin and realize that the insult usually isn't actually targeting them. Then again I'm a horrendous white straight christian male who is married and employed so I tend not to end up being insulted too often. Also it's one thing to say "that's gay" or "you're gay" than to say "gays are dumb". The latter being the more offensive because it's insulting a group instead of just using a word for insult.

              1. @mylittlesistercantbethislesbian Christians tend to be more thick skinned than other internet factions.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 01:59:25 UTC from web
                1. @nerthos unless you mention athiests. Or gays. Or abortions.

                  1. @mylittlesistercantbethislesbian That's only with the extremists. My country is officially catholic and yet they passed laws for most those things long ago.

                    1. @nerthos my country is "proudly seperate from religion" we're stil struggling.

    4. @snowcone the same can be said for real life, however. Letting things slide is way too rare in people.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 01:55:47 UTC from web
    5. @snowcone same deal dude. If I had a dime every time I've been called a gay jewish n(black person) socialist hick mothermangoesing sister humping retarted sucker of phallic objects I wouldn't even need a 401k

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 01:56:37 UTC from web
    6. @snowcone insight's a two-way street yes. Sure people can use restraint in speaking but so can they in reacting to words they don't like. As long as someone gets the chance to explain themselves they don't need censored.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 01:59:10 UTC from web
    7. @snowcone so is "I don't like it when people uses certain vocabulary that I find offensive/innapropriate and am going to complain if they do"

    10. @oracle If you outright do things their religion say are blasphemy of the highest order, of course they'll get mad. The same way people go into war for stupid things like flag burnings.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:04:23 UTC from web
    11. @oracle is that the KKK? (Spoiler alert muslims aren't the only violent extremists)

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:04:43 UTC from web
    12. @oracle Because they're stupid, bigoted, and as mature as a small child.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:05:25 UTC from web
    13. @snowcone so does that mean gay people are stupid or am I missing something here. I'm pretty sure that means gay people are stupid.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:07:43 UTC from web
      1. @mylittlesistercantbethislesbian He's saying that he doesn't use the word with bad connotations, yet those who use gay to describe themselves assume he is doing it. The fault thus is on their part, not his.

    14. @oracle i don't think you've met my friend called the klu klux klan. They have a thing for anti-christians called a burning cross a rope and a tree

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:08:41 UTC from web
    15. @oracle The militant factions of both religions are equally bad. You just get fed the whole "muslims are bad extremists" side of the story because the media up there uses it as a justification for their actions.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:11:54 UTC from web
    16. @snowcone @oracle Thus we shouldn't care if they are offended until they learn of their error.

    17. @oracle funny http://rainbowdash.net/url/706659

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:13:46 UTC from web
    18. @oracle I'm not blaming the media, I'm saying there's both idiots and reasonable people in both religious groups in equal measure.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:14:41 UTC from web
    19. @oracle Then take steps towards making the people above you not care.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:15:44 UTC from web
    20. @oracle oh, simply don't pay attention to it. It's not as if they imprison people for speech in the States.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:17:25 UTC from web
    21. @oracle I'm pretty sure you have some political options you could vote for that would put their efforts into changing that.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:17:30 UTC from web
    22. @oracle Without a tight grip it'll always change for the worse. That's the way things are, and not just with society. Anything, without regular inspection and maintenane, decays.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:19:47 UTC from web
    23. @oracle call bullcherries on the citation and spread word if you think it's that wrong to be censored.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:21:09 UTC from web
    24. @snowcone The issue is, you can't explain stuff to people when they put on their offense and or opression googles. They'll just ignore arguments calling you a bigot. Because that's what bigots do, call other people bigots to deny their own wrongdoings.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:21:19 UTC from web
    25. @oracle win some, lose some. Perhaps another way can be found.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:23:21 UTC from web
    26. @snowcone then you agree with getting "thick skin". Thick skin is imperative to maturity.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:24:14 UTC from web
    27. @snowcone It only works with a few of them, and it usually takes ungodly amounts of effort. 9 out of 10 times you'll have to craft a persona to fit to their tastes, develop a relationship of trust, and spend weeks discretely nudging at their view to change it. And even then, there's a chance to fail. It's no task for a mortal, far too costy.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:26:06 UTC from web
    28. @oracle Each side has very logical explanations. I, being a very sensitive person, have taken many many things way too hard before. I take someone telling me to be quiet or shut up after talking for a while very hurtful and sometimes I even cry over small things like this. There is not much I can do about this sensitivity but hide it. Now, when you use terms like that, it can hurt sensitive people's feelings. I know you say "they need to man up", but being a sensitive person, I know that is not easy to do. It is very hard to get over what people say to me. If you want to say a word that some people think is rude or hurtful when you are not even referring to them, at least try not to say it around people you are not familiar with and you are unsure are sensitive. Sure, you can use words like gay and stuff, but be careful who you say it around is all I'm saying. :) (this is supposed to appeal to each side equally)

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:27:09 UTC from web
    29. @snowcone i see that you were in a sense playing "devil'sadvocate". Problem with that is people jump the gun. Of course, another point you were making.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:28:57 UTC from web
      1. @awl "jump the gun" annoys me. I wasn't like excited and accidentally shooting off a retort without seeing the picture. I just like retorting things because it's my sick guilty pleasure to garner support against peoples opinions or infuriate others to mine. Aka trolling/flaming

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:32:28 UTC from web
        1. @mylittlesistercantbethislesbian I see little difference in means there. Only the ends.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:33:57 UTC from web
          1. @awl the difference is one is based.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:35:07 UTC from web
            1. @mylittlesistercantbethislesbian Hence i said, "in the ends". Regardless it was effective.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:36:02 UTC from web
    30. @snowcone And then we fall into the whole "asshole rehabilitation program vs a working community". We had a pretty nice example of that here not too long ago, and it showed how the cost is often greater than the gains.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:30:08 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos isolation = best rehabilitation.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:33:22 UTC from web
    31. @oracle Yes and its hard for sensitive people to move past the emotional part. Background with the "hurtful" word or not, it can offend anyone. Be mindful of those people is all I have to say.

Wednesday, 12-Mar-14 02:30:41 UTC from web
    32. @snowcone are you trying to imply that gays may be sensitive due to harsh treatment and bullying and verbal abuse and not just because they are predispositioned to feminimity and are emasculate? Now I know you are trolling.
