@snowcone or people could have thicker skin and realize that the insult usually isn't actually targeting them. Then again I'm a horrendous white straight christian male who is married and employed so I tend not to end up being insulted too often. Also it's one thing to say "that's gay" or "you're gay" than to say "gays are dumb". The latter being the more offensive because it's insulting a group instead of just using a word for insult.
