@snowcone Few are able to take a third party stance.

My thoughts on this: There's a time and place for everything. Some people are more suited to reaching others on a logic-based level. Some people are more able to reach people emotionally. Most are a mix of both, some lean more towards one or the other.
Some people will use that power incorrectly (making decisions entirely emotionally is indeed one example), but I don't think it's worth discounting anyone's opinions based on how they think.RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@neuraria I frankly think it's insulting that people expect others to just change how their minds work, when they themselves just refuse to use decent vocabulary.
-
@ellistia It's definitely not the instant change that people might expect and hope for.
-
@ellistia Wasn't the whole discussion on people getting offended at words that /aren't/ offensive?
-
@nerthos People might still disagree with being called things like "Gay" even if they 'think rationally'. They could not be homosexual at all, or they think that that is all you see them as. That's why some people get 'offended' at the word. Even if you would like it to be, and even if that's what some people see it as, it's not just a generic word to be thrown around.
-
@nerthos whether a word is offensive or not is dependent on how it is interpreted. The word "gay" associates with a certain type of person, so to use it as an insult or an otherwise negative way, is common to be interpreted as offensive. The point I make is that when people use that word in this way, there are dozens of other words they could use, yet they choose that one for some reason.
-
@nerthos There are better ways to describe a person is what I was getting at anyway.
-
@nerthos I guess I missed the former part of this whole chat. My bad. I don't see that being a problem though? (Unless people really are playing off 'retarded' as usable in a neutral way.)
-
@neuraria The problem comes when people see the words being used and instantly assume it's being used as an insult.
-
@oracle Well since gay either means "happy" or "homosexual", using it in a negative way still makes no sense. But yeah it doesn't matter because who cares if someone gets offended right?
-
@nerthos Some words are just naturally that way either by implication or social intent. If you're talking about gay or black people, fine, but if you're going around talking about retards or murdocks or mangoesrs then you're out of luck.

@ellistia The town'll meet tonight at the barn for an ol' gay time pardner http://santaclaritacitybriefs.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/38530005.jpg

@neuraria ?
-
@nerthos Use your imaginatino.
-
@oracle yeah I just happen to be a sensitive person. No one else's fault obviously.
-
@neuraria No, I mean, why are you saying that to me. I only entered the discussion with academic intent.
-
@nerthos I wasn't targeting you specifically.
