Of course the hilarious thing is that Reddit commits more crimes than 4chan does but everyone thinks of them as virtuous because they occasionally undertake charitable actions.

@cinnamonswirl They have had a "jailbait" problem but that was (I think) quickly snuffed out... but of course... I believe they are quite tame in the sense they don't do anything "extraordinary" to the internet.... 4chan and other site changed the internet while reddit is just.... there....

@metaltao They've done more than just that one very public incident

@metaltao Jailbait ran for /years/ without anyone caring in the slightest. It was only under massive media pressure and acting against the masses of people on reddit /actively defending it/ that the admins caved and killed the subredit. Then there was Creepshots, a board devoted to taking pictures (usually of a private nature) of women without them knowing about it. The infamous "/r/picturesofdeadkids" subreddit doesn't really need any further explanation and there are hundreds, if not thousands more.

@cinnamonswirl What about hitler in socks?

@cinnamonswirl Now I'm starting to see Reddit in a new light. What about Tumblr? They seem pretty quick to shut down blogs.
Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 09:56:26 UTC from web-
@pony Tumblr will shut down more or less anything if they get enough complaints about it. If they were wrong, well...that person can always start another blog, can't they? What are they going to do? leave?

@cinnamonswirl It seems like a reasonable system until you lose thousands of followers because your blog gets targeted by people who disagree with you. Meanwhile less popular smut gets ignored.

@pony "so it goes..." Slaughter House 5

@pony It's a terrible system, but it's probably the best that can be achieved for the largest group of people.

@cinnamonswirl I have to agree

@pony It's like Democracy.

@cinnamonswirl I must agree.

@cinnamonswirl Personally I like parlamentary monarchies more. In practice power is executed in the same way, but the royals act as long-lasting, highly qualified diplomats with a real interest on the country being well, since unlike regular politicians who come and go in 4 to 10 years, royals will be there for 30, 40 years, and after them their sons (Who have been raised and trained to do well in that position all their lives) will inherit the position, so they can't screw up everything for a short term gain since they or their sons will have to deal with the issue sooner or later.

@nerthos the us would be a lot better with legitimate elections instead of winner tske all
Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 10:25:28 UTC from web-
@bakasenpai Well, you can't really expect legitimate elections in a modern democracy.
Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 10:26:56 UTC from web-
@nerthos well we can and should expect it just isn't going to happen. That's the problem. People are too accepting of corruption as "part of the business". It doesn't have to be that way if we got off our apathetic arses and did something
Wednesday, 04-Jun-14 10:41:31 UTC from web-
@bakasenpai That's called qualified vote. Which you won't manage to legislate for regardless of how passionate you are about integrity. People are too stupid and lazy. If we were to institute a mandatory six-month course on basic politics to be eligible for voting, people would be able to properly read speeches and political campaigns and would know what the candidates actually think and are going to do.

@nerthos i was even just talking about switching it to a vote where if a third party got 5% of the vote they'd get 5% of the legislative seats
