@vt3c This laptop, however, didn't come with an optical drive. Is it true that optical drives create overheating issues?

@vt3c I got a new Satellite the other day. It runs Windows 8. Intel Celeron 2GHz dual, 4 GB RAM with Intel HD integrated graphics (1792 MB apparently). This is sooooo much better than anything else I own for games. lol

@pony Not by their presence, but in operation they can heat up, which can cause problems if you have an inadequately tested or borderline machine

@cinnamonswirl Ah good to know. I wonder how it affects the weight of a laptop as well. I almost never used mine on my other one.

@pony Obviously if they choice were just optical drive or nothing, the machine without one would be lighter, but most manufacturers tend to stuff the area that would have contained the optical drive with battery, which tends to weigh about the same.
