Fixed pricing is the most terrible music pricing scheme ever. Artists that make songs that are 20 minutes long will be insanely cheap in comparision to the average (4 dollar for over an hour of music? Nice...), and grindcore bands literally can't sell their stuff (nobody is going to pay 100$ for 99 songs that last about 20 seconds each). Why is it still the most popular model?

@omni Because buying musicc.
-
@omni I honestly listen to virtually nothing under 12 minutes long each track nowadays
-
@omni Simple solution: people write longer songs. I know it isn't always that simple but if you string 3 or 4 together and call it one I won't complain.
-
@nerthos I sometimes like supporting bands that actually make good music and deserve it, so I'm sorry for not being cool enough to pirate everything.
-
@sparkstorm That kinda defeats the purpose of grindcore, if that's what you're talking about, because one of the main traits of the genre is the average short lenght of the songs
-
@omni And yet again, you take everything wrongly, misunderstand what I'm trying to say, and start a new conflict.
-
@nerthos Omni + Nerthos = Communication hell
-
@omni Pretty much.
-
@omni I dont think I understand the point in writing a 20 second song, so I cant really empathise.
-
@sparkstorm "Happy Birthday to You" takes less than 10 seconds to sing.
-
@thatonepony I'm saying that buying music from online platforms like iTunes and such it's stupid. Buying CDs and stuff? Sure, it's a good choice. But those online things are reaaally lame.
-
@thelastgherkin But I would never pay money for it.
-
@sparkstorm Yes, but you can convey an important message in even 10 seconds of music.
-
@nerthos iTunes is a terrible place to buy music anyway. I generally buy CDs and, when possible, from the actual label/artist directly as well
-
@omni See? We think similarly in regards to this. No point in taking anyhing as an attack xD
-
@thelastgherkin Okay then, I'll rephrase it. I dont see that point in paying for a 20 second song.
-
@nerthos Even though our personalities are quite different, we do seem to share a lot of opinions, yes. And I'm sorry, my earlier reply was truly stupid and I could've easily known that wasn't what you meant
-
@omni No need to apologize. I know very well you mean no offense.
-
@sparkstorm And what if the complete album would be 20 minutes long and reasonably priced for that? :P
-
@omni I still probably wouldn't buy it, for me 20 seconds isnt long enough to really appreciate an individual song. As gherkin pointed out, you can get a message across, but it lacks the feeling of experience.
-
@nerthos Here, take this: http://www.remain-silent.net/ (clicking "Men Machine Souls" should give you 3... something-Industrial-like albums in this style: http://youtu.be/S7aB9oMFSNM). May or may not be something for you, I just like sharing music, especially when I can do so legally.
-
@omni Not really my style, but It's still nice. Thanks.
-
@sparkstorm Hmmm, I personally can appreciate songs of all lenghts, but to each their own I guess.
-
@omni They should just release via bandcamp with a minimum price set and let people pay what they want above that threshhold. I've happily paid $3-4 dollars for extremely short albums on there. (I bought an album approximately 6 and a half minutes long last time)

@omni indeed friend, indeed. /)*(\

@ceruleanspark I suppose they should. Well, any band should, Bandcamp is a great portal for buying music, both for the artist and customer.
