          1. @northernnarwhal man you don't carry a blade for only one reason. My knife saved my life (pardon the prose), many a time. Not in just defense either.

                                        1. @mushi Lain is a very complicated show, a lot of the events are told out of order and many events are extraneous and not relevant to the overarching plot and recurring themes. There are also many interpretations of the show as much of its presentation is through abstract storytelling methods that show the view more than they tell them. Basically, the early events of the show involve some time after the inception of the internet, or "the wired", where laboratory researchers are attempting to find ways to create a connection from the wired to the outside world without the use of a conventional device or medium. So basically Lain was created as an AI that existed as an overseer of sorts of the wired itself (often being referred to as 'kami', which is a term originally used in old Shinto mythology that relates back to creator beings that were worshiped and later plays in with the show's themes of religion). 2. @mushi So the Lain of the Wired was incredibly psychotic and a megalomaniac, so she was given a physical body that didn't retain memory of her existence as an AI so she could develop and have a more human and affectionate personality as an overseer of the Wired, but the problem is she then becomes aware of her own existence and is conflicted initially with leaving. Since she performs a system reset on reality and basically erases everyone's memories the show's ending poses the paradoxical question that if a person or idea was not remembered, did it ever exist? There's a lot more to the series but this is as summarized as I can make it. Oh, the aliens were just there to throw you off, and symbolize the confusion from an influx of information.

                                          1. @northernnarwhal yeah, i thought it was something like that, specially the part of erasing herself. and i was gonn ask you about the aliens.

well, that other anime you told me to watch was koni no tabi, right?

                                            1. @mushi Kino no Tabi, or Kino's Journey in English. Arguably my favourite anime, if not then one of my favourites. You'll like it.
