Is it just me or is it the cutest thing ever when folks from England type "mum" instead of "mom"? I dunno, it sounds a lot nicer, there's a sense of fluency about it.

@northernnarwhal I used to say "mother" instead of "mum" because I was ashamed of being British or something
-
@mastertdi You should be proud of your heritage, England is a fabulous country and definitely on my bucket list to visit.

@northernnarwhal I live in the one county in England where we say "mom".
-
@thelastgherkin Oh, whereabouts are you?
-
@northernnarwhal Ahr come vrum the Black Countray.
-
@northernnarwhal Seeing this country described as fabulous is rather bizarre to me.
-
@ellistia Well, I know its people are fabulous, at least based on the ones I've met.
-
@northernnarwhal It's really not that nice to live in. Definitely not terrible but the visual contrast between England and America is depressing
-
@thelastgherkin Ah, so a bit further north. Is it less urban there?
-
@mastertdi America is more bright and shiny, overall.
-
@clayinthecarpet Yeah it is. Coming back here was like that Powerpuff Girls episode where everything turned grey and boring.
-
@mastertdi As far as visuals I'd be lying if I didn't say I lucked out, Canada is just gorgeous. But I dunno, I think England has great people and culture. Also the best humour by far, English comedy is amazing. Don't even get me starting on how much good music your country has put out too.
-
@mastertdi I think it may be because there's so much older architecture in England. It's been around for quite a while longer. I hear the same thing from Scottish folks...complaints about how they want 500-year-old buildings torn down because they consider them eyesores, whereas we in the US consider them exotic and interesting.
-
@northernnarwhal Comedy and music, no question. People? You might mean celebrities but regular Britons are not very pleasant in my opinion.
-
@northernnarwhal Not really, a lot of it is just a crapton of canals and towns all mashed together.
-
@clayinthecarpet I certainly agree that castles and junk are pretty cool. There's nary a painted house over here; we're certainly not dressing to impress.
-
@thelastgherkin That sort of reminds me of how Toronto is pretty much the children's macaroni art project of cities, there are just buildings left and right with no real design intent.
-
@mastertdi Well I guess I've only met irregular Brits then, because from the ones I've met you're all quite charming.
-
@northernnarwhal In real life I'm much more introverted, awkward and less outwardly likeable. You lot bring out the best in me I guess.
-
@mastertdi I'm the same offline so don't sweat it man.
-
@northernnarwhal Fair doozy
-
@mastertdi Castles are BOSS. I really want to see one someday.
-
@clayinthecarpet I've been to Warwick castle and that was really hype. I mean the staircases are about two thirds of a person wide but they have peacocks.

@mastertdi Owned by Madame Tussaud's, eh? Figures. It looks cherriesing beautiful, though.
-
@clayinthecarpet Madame Tussauds is fun too. I got a wax replica of my hand there, but it crumbled this year :^(
-
@mastertdi Their wax castings are really fragile, unfortunately. We have a Madame Tussaud's near here and there's one sculpture they had to turn into Michael Myers (putting a mask on it) because its paint chipped away.
-
@clayinthecarpet I didn't know there was more than one, actually. I'd like to go there again now that I'm older and I'd actually know some of the figures.
