@ceruleanspark no. I'm peeking inside a remote controlled lamp adapter thingy. And it seems that by "No user serviceable parts", they mean "everything inside is on a single sided circuit board and can be replaced using a soldering iron"

@techdisk That sounds about right

@techdisk Don'tcha just love when you disprove "No user serviceable parts"? http://pny.lv/esm4
Friday, 17-Apr-15 17:49:02 UTC from web-
@techdisk You've only disproven it if you can plug it in without getting electrocuted
Friday, 17-Apr-15 17:49:28 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark I'm not stupid enough to do that while the case is open.
Friday, 17-Apr-15 17:49:59 UTC from web-
@techdisk If you made a big enough mistake, putting the case back on won't save you
Friday, 17-Apr-15 17:54:16 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark I know. Either way I haven't actually done anything. Just opened the case, had a little look-see, and closed it up. Because. http://pny.lv/esme

@techdisk Yes that's an antenna.

@techdisk amazing!! This looks much like a 1970s-80s Hongkong AM transistor #radio, combined w/ some integrated circuit thing at the bottom
-
@mcscx It's interesting. Nothing /really/ cool I can do with it since it doesn't have a grounding socket, therefore I can't just remote control my entire computer setup... Oh well.

@techdisk in DE there are *only* grounding sockets (aka Schuko), both in walls as in devices.Schuko was already established after WorldWar I

-
@techdisk probably this device uses #shortwave. I wouldn't touch that antenna :-) How old is it?
-
@mcscx Brand new, actually.
