Though I have to admit, as somebody who dealt with being a four-eyed Game Boy geek before it was socially acceptable to play vidya past the age of 12, I do somewhat resent people laying claim to the nerd life because they've heard the Doctor Who theme song and know what a Pac-Man is.

@scribus As a residential nerd, yeah, I agree. Before you pull the "internet fanatic" apple out on me you better know about Homestar Runner, because a true internet fanatic (aka "extreme nerd") examines the internet at every major span of its life.

@bobo but if you don't know, then whatever, like what you like.

@bobo I personally don't care if someone calls themselves a nerd and not know the same nerdy things I do. It is about identity and identifying as something will most likely garner their time and energy into that identity, like learning more nerdy things. It is mostly inconsequential and trivial.

@metaltao Yes, but going beyond and calling yourself a "master" in something you relatively don't know cherry about is blatantly novice-like. Of course, we're talking about internet things, so it's all trivial anyway, but how will people learn to equalize their bark and their bite if others don't teach them? I just want less assholes in the world, but some people never learn.

@bobo I don't see how calling yourself a master in something when you are not equates to being an asshole, but, I do agree. Just the aggression and impatience will teach them there place, but it will most likely deter them from ever going into the fandom of their nerd interest ever again.

@metaltao Well, asshole is the wrong word. You get the point, however. I didn't mean to come of saying I AM THE MASTER OF EVERYTHING AND I TEACH ALL, or even an overly-correcting ass, but I meant to express that I wish that some people need to learn their place, even though I realize that the only way that they can stop doing that is by finding out themselves. Truly, I wish that more people would take the time to work on themselves, because nobody likes jerks.

@bobo I do not intend to "fix" people's faults with my personal agression.

@bobo *aggression

@bobo I'm a fan of anyone who commits to such a statement. We could all stand more calm relaxed people around.

@bobo Well, I agree again, but we have to realize, most of these people are normal teens or pree-teens. I apologize for insinuating you were being overly corrective, I was trying to edge in on this other topic because it was on my mind, but trying to phrase it in a way to not point to you, I am just bad with such things. Sorry.

@scribus Oh those good old days. My Game Boy was the only source of entertainment I had for a good few years.
