people saying that the coke fueled atrocities David Bowie committed in the 70's make him less of an artist make me so mad

@rarity I've been avoiding people like that. Now is the time for a lot of things and anger is not one of them.

@northernnarwhal I try to avoid it but my tumblr feed is nonstop "I'm glad David Bowie is dead because he had sex with a teenager in the 70's". Like goddamn, I didn't even know that happened until AFTER he died and I was so worked up between him dying and now learning that he did something horrible that I just went and took a nap so I didn't have to process it

@rarity there's not even solid proof he did it as far as I can gather so it's just petty bandwagon hate really

@tiffany well I tend to take a woman's word for it if they say it happened. And I know this isn't really a defense since minors can't consent, but seeing her talk about it now she doesn't seem to fussed about it. Again I know that's no excuse but it's not like he did what the guy from Lostprophets did

@rarity I've definitely considered her word and it's fair that one would take her side honestly, but at the same time I think being someone as huge as Bowie almost assures that people will make false claims but I'm not one to say

@rarity See, I've been avoiding Tumblr altogether right now and have mostly been following posts about David Bowie on Twitter. People saying things like "I'm glad he's dead" are full of anger and hatred right now and are not people I want to engage with.

@northernnarwhal anyway did you get a chance to listen to Blackstar?

@rarity Yup, I actually posted about it here on the weekend before the world got news of him passing away. I loved it, personally. I think it was his best album in decades. The instrumentation was evocative and varied, the songwriting was incredibly ambitious, and Bowie's lyrics and performances were eccentric and haunting (the latter even more so in retrospect). Really great production too.

@northernnarwhal Antonio Fantaliglio in his review said what I thought was really true about it, in that you can't say "it wouldn't be as good if he hadn't died", because the whole point of the album is that he KNEW he was dying. If he wasn't dying, Blackstar wouldn't be what it is. Bowie turned his actual death into an art piece and that's papayaing amazing and such a Bowie thing to do. I absolutely agree that it's the most I've enjoyed a Bowie album in a long time. Probably gonna see it on some "best of 2016" lists for sure

@rarity Haven't seen Fantano's review of it yet but I definitely agree with that point, Blackstar is very specifically about his death and gains much of its moving intimacy from the fact that it was made by Bowie while he knew was and was in the process of dying. Like many of his best records, the context surrounding the record is just as important as the record itself. True to his nature as a performer and artist, Bowie made his death, like his life, a beautiful work of art.
