I wonder, if I'd never been told that Talking To Girls was supposed to be an Awkward Thing, how different would my life have been? Or any other hangup, really. How much does pop culture focusing on overcoming a problem in turn perpetuate that problem for society?

@scribus This is a really interesting question because it relates to our fundamentally complex relationship with media as well as its impressionistic properties as art and our imprinting as audience. In short, I'd personally say the answer is "yes", but the long answer is a "yes, but" followed by lots of admonitions and caveats.

@northernnarwhal Yeah, that's about what I was thinking. Though, my "Yes, but" was more detailed. Specifically, "Yes, but I'd still find a way to screw it up because now I don't know I need to be careful!" D:

@scribus It's a difficult relationship to grapple with, as it's challenging to be helped!

@scribus kind of relating to an addage, "it's not a problem until someone makes it", or "if a tree falls".
