Well, the good news is that I have a shiny new battery and alternator in my truck. The bad news is, the problem has been something else all along. FML.

@scribus Go to Car talk! Nao

@metaltao Well, at this point I've pretty much narrowed it down to the negative side of the wiring, since it'll start fine with a jump if I connect the ground to the frame instead of the post. UNLESS I'M STILL WRONG!! ugh

@scribus *Pats your back* You'll be ok buddy..
-
@scribus so does it start rough or not at all unless you connect to frame?
-
@awl It starts flawlessly with a jump. And you know what? The AAA guy got it to run without grounding to the frame. But the positive post didn't work and it turns out I've been hooking up the cables to a different part of the positive side because I have Fluffle Puffty clamps so all this time I may have been bypassing the real, $10 problem like a derp.

@scribus i was just to get to the terminals.

@scribus It is irritating when that happens, but I suppose it is better than a more complex issue. I have also done a bit of overthinking as well (HVAC troubleshooting). :D
