Really the only reason to begrudge protesters is when they turn it into an excuse for destruction and rioting.

@awl I think that's a function of crowd dynamics. Sports fans do it when their team /wins/
-
@ceruleanspark @awl Let's just ban crowds
-
@ceruleanspark nature or not it's not an excuse. Otherwise what is society made for.
-
@awl Crumbling regularly, mostly
-
@nerthos eh i think of that as a causal effect
-
@awl A mechanism for mitigating the dissonance bought on by self awareness and increasing reproductive potential in an increasingly hostile survival environment.
-
@ceruleanspark so protection to any effect against our baser instincts is not part of this?
-
@awl In reality society is made as an attempt to turn humanity into a cohesive force, but after a while it always starts to break because someone with less than pure intentions gets in a position of influence and starts benefiting or representing only a sector of society, so the rest turns hostile.
-
@awl It's part of the root cause of the dissonance: Man is claims to be civilized but maintaining that civilisation is also its main energy expenditure.
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@ceruleanspark ah, I got it. Herein is why I believe that us acting on our base instincts to the point of unwonted destruction should be frowned upon, not excused simply for being our instincts. Yes it is part of the understanding as to why we are the way we are but if we're building ourselves up to be better than other animals, simply for our being self-aware, then we can walk the walk.
