@redenchilada I'm disappointed that I can't get Zork working on my computron. :(
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:48:32 UTC from web-
@scribus Darn. Hope you can get yourself eaten by a grue some time soon.

@redenchilada I've long wondered what it was like, being eaten by a grue....

@scribus If you're actually being serious, I'm pretty sure it's been running nicely in Z-Machine emulators for... well, quite a while now.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:49:30 UTC from web-
@bitshift Yeah, it has, I guess I misspoke. Mistyped? Anyway, whenever I load up a Z-machine or DOS emulator, it doesn't recognize my Dvorak keyboard layout and still tries to give me QWERTY keystrokes. I'm sure it's not a difficult fix, but I just haven't really cared enough because there are plenty of online mirrors/ports/whatever you'd consider it. :p
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:51:02 UTC from web-
@scribus Oooh, now I see the problem. (Same reason I can't practically emulate a BBC Micro, in fact; one of the vital keys is hard-mapped to a keystroke UK keyboards can't actually produce, only I don't quite remember which key.)
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:52:27 UTC from web-
@bitshift Ouch. >.< Confounded changing standards and non-standard standards!!

@theawesomepony Not sure, but I'm definitely going to the Gala (unless something comes up).

@bitshift waaaait. the BBC micro cant be emulated with a British keyboard...
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:54:20 UTC from web-
@techdisk42 Yes. The irony (or something like it, I'm not a dictionary) is palpable.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:55:02 UTC from web-
@bitshift Yeah, irony is the correct word.

@techdisk42 I would guess it's because the emulator in question was coded on a machine (or multiple machines, depending on how many developers it has) with a US layout.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:56:09 UTC from web-
@bitshift you know you could try to remap your own keyboard, so that it sends the correct keys to the program, and therefore the emulated BBC micro
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 20:57:22 UTC from web -
@bitshift the UK keyboard has in fact one more key than the US does. you could probably just change your keyboard language and have it work perfectly.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:00:05 UTC from web-
@techdisk42 scratch that, same number of keys, one is just moved.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:01:08 UTC from web -
@techdisk42 Almost certainly. It's just annoying that I have to jump through hoops to emulate a machine that was mostly sold over here in the first place.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:01:13 UTC from web-
@bitshift yeah, it doesnt make sense.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:01:48 UTC from web -
@bitshift unless...
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:02:00 UTC from web -
@bitshift AH HA! it doesnt have either layout originally! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/32/BBC_Micro_Front_Restored.jpg
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:03:05 UTC from web-
@techdisk42 I think my favourite bit about that layout is that somebody apparently thought "aw shoot, we need arrow keys. uh, just slap them on the top right somewhere, they're not that important."
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:04:54 UTC from web-
@bitshift Better than the treatment they got on my laptop.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:05:47 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Oh?
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:06:25 UTC from web-
@bitshift Well, ok, actually looking at the picture that setup is totally nonsensical, but my up and down keys are half-size. They're impossible to use in any practical amount.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:07:31 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Mine are half-size, and they've been easy to use. Probably helps that they're on a comparatively large keyboard in the first place, though (i.e., half of this key size is not as small as half of a smaller key would be). That and it being a keyboard with chiclet keys. <3
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:10:05 UTC from web-
@bitshift I play games that necessitate fast mashing of the arrows, though. Half-size keys are terrible for that.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:11:49 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Ah, yeah, I could see that. Luckily, I don't play silly dancey games.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:12:30 UTC from web-
@bitshift Why not.
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:13:12 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Because they are silly and you are silly for playing them. (Except really it's because my coordination is hopeless.)
Wednesday, 11-Jul-12 21:14:03 UTC from web-
@bitshift Boooriiiiing.

@bitshift Plus, my arrow keys as a whole are about 70% the width of the rest of the keys, so

@bitshift Yeah, it is kinda funny. but it does keep them from having to leave those two blank areas beside the up arrow.
