I still like to believe that the majority of Trump supporters aren't horrible racists.

@actualrudolph I think the issue people have is that they're concerned that /he's/ a horrible racist, or at least, that he will allow his racism to influence his policymaking.

@ceruleanspark I really don't deny that /he's/ a horrible racist, since he definitely comes off that way. It's just the left-wing mindset seems to be that if you voted for Trump, you're a horrible racist. To me it just reminds me of four years ago when the right-wing folks were saying that if you voted for Obama you like killing babies.

@oracle Or 12 years ago if you didn't vote Bush, you were... Yeah I don't actually remember what the deal was with John Kerry was. But yeah it's the same concept.

@oracle Pretty much. Just a part of partisan politics, the people of one side will do anything to diminish the character of people who disagree with them.

@actualrudolph I haven't met many legitimate racists. The last one I met was an African American in his 80's from Mississippi who lives in Michigan. I have met a fair number of people who were called racist, but really weren't. As far as the character of Trump goes, I don't think he is racist. Do I think he is a papaya? Yes, racist, no.

@oracle I guess it depends on how you define "racist". I mean if you define it as someone who actively lynches minorities and thinks slavery is pretty neat, yeah then Trump's probably not a racist. If you define it as someone who is biased and prejudice towards certain ethnic groups, I feel like he fits the bill.

@actualrudolph A racist is any person who believes that one race is superior to any other for any reason. And that individual members of a race is superior or inferior to another because, and only because of their race. Racism is like a mental illness, it makes no sense. Also, I would love for you to cite your sources. Not because I don't believe you or anything, just to try to separate fact from opinion.

Also, a racist is not someone who believes one race to be superior to others, it's someone who discriminates or shows prejudice against a certain ethnic group. That is the proper, dictionary definition. -
@actualrudolph I understand not giving evidence on pure laziness. But, you know, burden of proof falls completely on you.

@oracle What do you define as a credible source? Each article on that thread is from a reputable news journal with proper quotes and citations.

@actualrudolph Besides, the man says he's not racists. I go on that. Regardless of if these stories are true or not, he says he isn't racist, I don't have any right to judge and say that he is.

@oracle I'm arguing with you on that. I mean I'm really not arguing at all, the only point I made was that he has shown a lot of behavior that could be seen as racist, depending on personal definition of racism.

@oracle Maybe I don't know you well enough to pick up on your humor. I had assumed you were entirely disregarding the sources because they were on a Reddit link, when I was just using the Reddit thread because I didn't want to take the time to put all the articles together when someone had already done just that.

@actualrudolph Alright, so I read about half of those links. Here is what should be said. First, at least three of those articles have nothing to do with racism at all. Second, if someone you know, or someone you are related to is a racist, that doesn't make you a racist. Third, the KKK endorses Trump, alright, that's a fact, the KKK does whatever they want, Trump didn't accept that endorsement. Fourth, I have already looked into all of these legal cases, settling in court means nothing, usually it is done for the convenience of the party being sued (Because they don't want to deal with the lawsuit, and so they can at least try to make people happy) His corporations have never lost a single case. Fifth, some of these articles are false, completely false, no evidence.

@oracle Okay a few other things. First off, even if I don't necessarily agree with any sort of Islamic registry or ban on Islamic immigration, I don't personally count those ideas as racist. They're more of an excessive reaction to an admittedly real threat.
There is no absolute, conclusive evidence of Trump being a racist, I can admit that. A lot of it is quotes like this one from his announcement speech:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” Whether this one is racist or not is highly debatable, and again comes down to personal opinions and definition. Of course the headline that usually comes with this quote is "Trump believes that Mexicans are rapist by default" Which builds the "Trump is racist" mindset. -
@actualrudolph I'm trying to glorify him or anything. He isn't a very likeable person, and his views are out there. "There is no absolute, conclusive evidence of Trump being a racist, I can admit that." I guess that's all I wanting to hear. I personally think racism is a serious thing, and to call someone a racist is a serious thing. Too often today we throw it around willy nilly

@oracle Most of the cases of him being racist are alleged, second-hand reports. Personally, it's not hard for me to believe he said those things, but that's opinion, not fact. More-or-less, my stance on this is "Donald Trump could be a racist" and that's about it. I have my fair share of issues with Trump, and there are a lot of genuine reasons to dislike him, and the racism feels overplayed.
