            1. @erfunden I don't think the title really matters. They seem to be applied at random. These horses know nothing about monarchy!

              1. @thelastgherkin It's true. But one could make a similar argument for why equestria has two ruling princesses with no king or queen... But I guess divine alicorns can choose whatever titles they want.

                1. @erfunden I always liked to think there was a doddery old Queen lurking somewhere in Canterlot, and Celestia had to take over due to her senility.

                  1. @thelastgherkin I always figured the Cosmic Empress (or whatever) was off controlling even more important things than just the sun (like entire galaxies) and left the princesses in charge of a (cosmically) minor planet for a (cosmically) short period of time. Kind of existentialist. But I like the senile queen idea too!

                  1. @mushi That would explain the matriarchal tenancies of Equestria. I would love to see that metaphor extended. With all of Equestria being workers all birthed by Celestia.

                3. @erfunden it's because luna and celestia are not actually sisters! ... But a homosexual couple ruling as queen and queen would be frowned upon, so they agreed early on to convince the world they were sisters! And the queen is locked in a tower, cutting and snorting lines of zap-apple skin shavings
