My home town had a theater that looked like this, but they knocked it down because the future has arrived and everything must be destroyed. https://mangoposter.club/attachment/974391

@moonman I know some people who swiped a ton of stuff from an almost batcaveing ornate theater that was being leveled to put in a drive thru.
-
@cyberpotato a friend and I broke in and "stole" some things after it was declared condemned, but sadly I don't know what happened to any of the pieces we took. Mostly ornate woodwork. We also video taped ourselves doing it, which if we could find the tapes, would be the last documentary evidence if its insides. Truly sad, I have memories of nearly every intricate part of the theater, because it made such an impression on me as a child.

@moonman Kind of a shame when the stuff gets torn down. Main street in small towns for the most part are just desolate any more. Every one I've been through at least half of the neat-looking buildings are closed, either looking for buyers or awaiting their own demolition.

@awl I am old enough to remember when the main street in my town was active with people walking around. I remember when it changed. I dislike the "things are the same you just changed how you perceive them" mindset. My Hometown had a very active downtown area and now, like you said, it's desolate. And the city council wants to know how to fix it.

@moonman @awl You have to get rid of black people and homeless people. Getting rid of the homeless is easy, just find jobs for them and give them incentive to stop doing drugs and/or drinking. This means cutting them off any sort of welfare they receive that keeps them in their comfort zone. The black people part is harder, and there is no realistic way of solving that problem.

@moonman @awl oh, and we need to start more heavily penalizing panhandlers AND those who enable them by giving them money. Make it a $500 fine for giving money to panhandlers and send panhandlers to whatever sort of rehab they need or 3 months in jail, in which they attend some basic rehab classes and get situated with employment.
The problem with homelessness is part of a bigger problem, and homelessness tends to destroy areas where it is prevalent due to the crime and other property damage homeless people cause.
Either all that I suggested or let them build their tent cities way out of town, and quarantine them in it. -

@moonman @awl It's from one of our most beloved bands of the 90s. The main singer killed himself by stabbing himself in the chest in 2000.
I thought the feeling you were communicating was exactly the same as that of the song. About deserted main roads in small towns after some soulless shopping mall opened.

@moonman Over here we tend to file for historical building while they're still in operation to avoid that.
