For a second there my mind drifted off and thought what life would be like without technology. I though about all the work we would need to do. Kinda scary

@renovatedkitchen You mean that like in modern technology, Amish style, right? Because no technology at all would probably mean the death of the species.

@nerthos the though of working that hard made me sweat.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:47:24 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@renovatedkitchen Yeah, it would be awful. I could survive pretty well due to all the crafts I know because hobbies, or as a warrior/guard, but it wouldn't be an easy life.

@nerthos hoard food> nap all day and night.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:52:08 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@renovatedkitchen Problem is, unless you have a bunker and hunters, you won't be able to gather food. And even if you do it won't last long. Let's say you have food and you nap: Your body would then get out of shape and you would be easy prey.

@nerthos short and happy life vs long and boring. Also, no technology> what does it mean. Suddenly electricity doesn't work? Knives and such are at ready.

@renovatedkitchen As in "nothing but rocks and sticks"

@nerthos I don't need a bunker. I've watched "Home Alone" enough times to know how to set up some fierce booby traps.

@nerthos I would get some basic tools rather quickly (the main problem would be getting something that works as a rope and getting stones sharp enough to cut myself some wool would be hard) - but if that poblem is solved, I could make an axe and be pretty useful as the gu who gets wood for the fire or for hoods.

@hakupony Yeah, unless you can find obsidian or something like that it would be hard. As for ropes, you could use some climbing plants that bundle together and are fairly resistant. I would go for the lance, and a shield made out of palm tree palm's bases, since that would mean less risk of being biten or hurt by prey, something really dangerous if there's no medicine.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 09:00:22 UTC from web-
@nerthos Yeah, they could do well for a first solution.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 09:05:51 UTC from web-
@hakupony Actually palm shields are strong enough to survive a strong blow from a blunt weapon, and sword thrusts. I've tried it.

@renovatedkitchen Don't worry. You and every other reasonable person who doesn't immediately take to "might makes right" would inevitably be killed in the ensuing riotous collapse of society.

@ceruleanspark they would have to find me in my secret napping spot first
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:53:32 UTC from StatusNet iPhone -
@ceruleanspark I don't think so. There actually are few people who kill without reason and if you don't have anything and live nomadic, there is no reason to kill you unless there is a new society and social order which can perceive you as a thread.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:56:52 UTC from web-
@hakupony Who says they're killing without reason? He has something they want. People have killed eachother over property since the dawn of time.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 09:06:24 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark I for one wouldn't kill someone for their poverty.

@ceruleanspark If someone stronger as me demanded my property, I'd give it up. Without power or a society backing you up, nothing blongs to you, Id just use what I have as long as I have it and travel constantly so that the people arount don't know what directly. This is basically how gypsies survived for so long...

@nerthos You forget that there are plenty of isolated groups for whom the loss of technology would yield basically no change. A lot of people would certainly die, but it wouldn't wipe out the species
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:47:54 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark By "no technology at all" I mean not even prehistoric technology.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:48:43 UTC from web-
@nerthos So you actually mean "tools". Given that basically anything in the hand of an intelligent being is functionally a tool, such a loss would require a bastion style calamity that destroys basically all physical objects.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:50:48 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark Yeah. It can't happen in real life. But the inhability to handle tools would wipe out the species.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:52:05 UTC from web-
@nerthos The argument has been made that sentience actually evolved as a form of mental tool and isn't actually a prerequisite for intelligent life.
Monday, 17-Sep-12 08:53:22 UTC from web-
@ceruleanspark But the human species would be terribly outclassed by other species, probably even dogs. Some would survive for a while, sure, but only those trained in hand to hand combat.
