http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2012/10/motorola-reneges-on-ice-cream-sandwich-software-update/ Motorola is a classy company. 1) Tell everyone they're gonna get ICS. 2) Push a high priority update to users that locks their bootloaders 3) Cancel the ICS update.

@ceruleanspark Oh good, another company I can put on my "do not buy" list.

@toksyuryel At this stage, if you're buying an Android handset and if the ideals that the Android Open Source Project represents are even remotely important to you, you should be buying devices solely from the Nexus line. Anything else is asking for disappointment.

@ceruleanspark I will make a note of that.

@ceruleanspark motorolas can get ICS. I know people with motos with JB
-
@abigpony Some can, sure. The issue with this specific handset is that they said they'd get ICS, then cancelled the update, but only after making it very difficult for users not already on a hacked phone to do the upgrade themselves. They did the same with the European version of the original Droid handest too, which is why it flopped in Europe.
-
@ceruleanspark but... The moto droid is the one i know supports ICS.
-
@abigpony You can hack the Droid 1 to run ICS precisely because Motorola didn't pull this BS with that handset. (The last official update for the Droid 1 was Froyo)
-
@ceruleanspark but my friend who had one got it with froyo, straight updated to gingerbread, then went to ICS. No foolin.
