        1. @thelastgherkin when the fisrt portugese guys started coming here, they started discribing our fauna. hen, for thew soth (saddly, the only exemple i know) they said it was like this: A husge anymal with a child head that lived bonded to the trees. To clarify that description, some artist drew an elephant with a doll head, chained to a tree with some people to sompare the size, since it was said to be huge

          1. @mushi Oh man, that sounds great. Here, back in World War Two, there had to be educational programmes on the radio for children living in the city because they'd never seen any country animals. They described the cow as having "six sides: front, back, left, right, lower and upper. It has a brush for a tail, and underneath is where you find the milk." So all the kids were thinking cows were in the shape of cuboids with milk bottles underneath.
