Here's an example: an Andy Capp strip from last week. Andy is standing near a ladder while his wife Flo precariously balances to wash the windows. Andy says, across three panels "Be careful, Flo. I'd hate you to slip and fall. 'Cos I'll still need my shirt ironing for tonight!"

@colfax Oh no no no. At some point within the past 30 years the joke became less about actually threatening violence against your spouse and more about being passive-aggressive while going to counselling. I think your closest analogue is The Lockhorns?

@starshine I don't think we get any cartoons imported, except maybe Garfield. (I only know so much about your funnies from the Comics Curmudgeon.) Our worst ever strip is called George and Lynne, so if you're ever bored and need something to not entertain you, have a Google.
