  1. Here's an example: an Andy Capp strip from last week. Andy is standing near a ladder while his wife Flo precariously balances to wash the windows. Andy says, across three panels "Be careful, Flo. I'd hate you to slip and fall. 'Cos I'll still need my shirt ironing for tonight!"

    1. @thelastgherkin So, it's roughly the same as American comics.

    2. @thelastgherkin Hasn't Andy Capp just been the same joke rehashed for the past century or so?

      1. @colfax Oh no no no. At some point within the past 30 years the joke became less about actually threatening violence against your spouse and more about being passive-aggressive while going to counselling. I think your closest analogue is The Lockhorns?

        1. @thelastgherkin We do get Andy Capp here, you know.

            1. @thelastgherkin Yeah, we also got Hugh Laurie and Doctor Who.

              1. @colfax Hugh Laurie's on loan from the British Museum.

                1. @thelastgherkin Do you get Rex Morgan MD or Mary Worth over there? There's some classic "comics" to make fun of.

                  1. @starshine I don't think we get any cartoons imported, except maybe Garfield. (I only know so much about your funnies from the Comics Curmudgeon.) Our worst ever strip is called George and Lynne, so if you're ever bored and need something to not entertain you, have a Google.

                    1. @thelastgherkin D: You need to look up Pearls Before Swine, then. One of the few American comics that's worth ink.

                2. @thelastgherkin Unfortunately we also seem to have gotten Russel Brand too, you can have him back, we'll even pay the shipping.

                  1. @colfax No ta. You can keep him.

        2. @thelastgherkin So... they both suck?

      2. @colfax @thelastgherkin It has to be some kind of Guinness challenge. The strip would probably be funnier if they ran the same picture of him lying on the couch for three weeks.

        1. @artrageous They should do that, but after a few days add more and more flies and then after a month make it clear that his corpse is finally rotting.
