AHHHH! My stupid computer keeps having this Anti-virus thhing pop up and it slows my computer Really slow!
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:42:19 UTC from web-
@blues4th Dude, you probably have a virus. and that thing that pops up is it.

@techdisk tell me something i don't know

@blues4th Sounds like you have a virus.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:43:05 UTC from web-
@meloetta No... ya think?
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:43:58 UTC from web-
@blues4th Well what the heck are you doing on RDN FIX IT.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:44:19 UTC from web-
@meloetta i don't no how!
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:45:28 UTC from web-
@blues4th Search the google for"live CD virus scanner"
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:46:19 UTC from web -
@blues4th System restore.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:46:46 UTC from web-
@meloetta Bad Stumpy. That's a last resort method.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:47:29 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty It sounds like he doesn't know how to fix it, and I really need to see like what is going down on his computer to help fix it.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:48:09 UTC from web-
@meloetta You just download something like MalwareBytes and kill that ****.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:49:05 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty The virus he has probably won't let him download it, see it as a virus, and not open it.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:50:06 UTC from web-
@meloetta I had a similar virus when I used Vista and I could download stuff.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:51:09 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty Anyway who needs programs to remove viruses. I don't.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:51:31 UTC from web-
@meloetta I'm pretty sure "System Restore" is a program.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:52:34 UTC from web-
@omni Dane is talking about programs that you get from the internet, not that is built into the computer, and system restore is my last resort as well.

@meloetta Who even gets viruses anymore
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:52:45 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty Little kids who think they know everything about pirating games.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:53:51 UTC from web -
@yodelerty People who use Windows and Mac, obviously. Can't blame them, though, even Microsoft states that if you get a virus, there's a 44% chance it's your own fault. Which, of course, means there's a 56% chance you're not to blame (which is a ridiculously high percentage).
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:54:40 UTC from web-
@omni Those people are lame. I don't get viruses anymore and I use Windows.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:56:35 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty Doesn't have to do with people being lame if Microsoft states itself that in 56% of the cases a virus can infect you without you actively starting it and in 5.6% of the cases viruses can infect you by merely being connected to the Internet, even if you're not actively using your PC.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:59:54 UTC from web-
@omni I use a laptop so it spends a lot of the time either hibernating or off.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:01:05 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty Hibernating is a completely different state than "on but not in use", though.

@omni the only reason linux doesn't get viruses is because there's no profit in creating a linux virus
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:57:11 UTC from web-
@redenchilada That's such nonsense. Most of our public systems run Linux. Write a good virus, infect a computer belonging to a bank, boom! Jackpot!
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:58:27 UTC from web-
@omni hack into the one windows computer on the bank network, BOOM much easier jackpot.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:01:43 UTC from web-
@techdisk You'll still have to infect the Linux systems which actually take care of all the trafficking, so you're surely not done.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:02:14 UTC from web-
@omni its probably easier to hack into an individuals bank account through their home windows computer.

@omni And you think bank systems aren't secured against something like that? I don't think you stand a chance of infecting a bank system no matter what they run.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:01:49 UTC from web-
@redenchilada When were we talking about systems being secured? Of course a bank system is secured against viruses, just like any normal desktop computer would be. Doesn't matter that you can make just as much money on Linux viruses as on Windows viruses if you play your cards right, I just took a somewhat extreme example to make the point clearer.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:03:13 UTC from web-
@omni The point I was trying to make is that targeting Windows or even Mac would give a much greater coverage for virus developers. Linux has very little market share in comparison to either, and most of its userbase is composed of geeks and nerds who know how to defend against that sort of thing. If you want to get to the widest audience of technology-illerate folk who can be easily scared into clicking a button and giving you their credit card info, you're stupid not to target Windows.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:05:55 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Well, yes, scareware would normally be more profitable under Windows or Mac. Still, if you know what you're doing, you can make a lot of money by writing Linux viruses. That was all I wanted to say.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:08:31 UTC from web-
@omni You're battling a highly-secured system and a (hopefully) experienced IT team if you're trying to infect a bank system, though. With Windows all you need to worry about is deploying it and making it look harmless enough for dumb people to give the program whatever permissions it needs; the greater target area leaves you a higher chance of getting at least some success, thus guaranteeing at least some return on the time investment. So no, it really isn't more profitable to target corporations with viruses like that unless you can already see a hole that can be blown wide open.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:11:45 UTC from web-
@redenchilada I don't recall saying more profitable, I was merely defending against your status that there wouldn't be any profit possible. So, long story short, we have reached the point where we both have the same idea but are choosing different wording, making it sound like we disagree. I love those moments, they're always so nicely awkward :x

@yodelerty ever since i got this one stubborn virus on an old laptop that literally killled any program that tried to scan anything, including Firefox when i online scanned, ive put my trust in live cds.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:51:07 UTC from web-
@techdisk The real trick to getting rid of viruses is just not getting them in the first place.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:52:27 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty yep. My old laptop had the virus for a long time because i never used it and never bothered to remove it.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:53:44 UTC from web-
@techdisk Lol. That happened to very first laptop my family had. It's just sitting upstairs now because it's currently unusable and not worth saving.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 21:55:32 UTC from StatusNet iPhone-
@yodelerty i tonly bothered because i was bored and felt like killing a virus that day.

@blues4th Try to download an actual antivirus program like Avast (http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Free-Antivirus/3000-2239_4-10019223.html?part=dl-85737&subj=dl&tag=button&v6=null&v7=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.avast.com%2Ffree-antivirus-download%23FDI&v24=download.cnet.com&v25=FA) if you don't already have a decent antivirus product. Avast can scan before your system really starts. If you can't install avast, reboot into "safe mode" and install it from there. Also, if you'll excuse me, I'll be laughing a bit because I haven't needed any antivirus protection for the last two years and am still doing fine :x

@widget The ability of the target to fight back is also a big issue, though. Getting a bit of money from some soccer mom giving her credit card to a popup on her computer? Pursuing you isn't worth it to her. Getting into a bank system and stealing millions? You better hope you covered your tracks, because you know they're going to target you back. I'm not saying it's impossible to get away with it, but it just seems safer to target many small fries, at least in my opinion, than going after the big guns would be.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:25:44 UTC from web-
@redenchilada what is soccer mom?
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:26:43 UTC from web-
@mushi generalized term for an average person who wouldn't be aware of how to deal with things like computer viruses.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:27:57 UTC from web-
@redenchilada I thought they were ladies who drove minivans packed full of other people's kids to take them to sporting events.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:28:54 UTC from web-
@foxgopher Same difference XD.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:29:58 UTC from web-
@tekkdan I'm simply pointing out some extra things Red had missed in his description. Because some soccer moms could be potentially ruthless.

Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:33:22 UTC from web-
@foxgopher yeah. I've been thinking a lot about you anyway. I considered texting you but i dunno whether that'd bother you. xP I still have revising your resume on my todo list.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:35:31 UTC from web-
@pony Well you can remove it. It's ok.

@foxgopher if you'd rather I not any more that's cool. I was still looking forward to it. I've just been distracted recently.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:43:29 UTC from web-
@pony It doesn't really matter what you do.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:46:56 UTC from web-
@foxgopher I don't wanna give unwanted advice or anything. I was just going to reformat it and make suggestions on how to strengthen it. shrug
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:49:45 UTC from web-
@pony Then do that if you want to.
Thursday, 01-Nov-12 22:51:35 UTC from web-
