  1. Maybe the solution is to block the public timeline to anyone who isn't staff, forcing people to use their personal timeline and seeing only what they want to see instead of complaining about everything everyone says on here.

    1. @redenchilada Or we actually make people follow the rules? I mean, you accept the rules when you sign up. Should we all have a downgraded experience just because people accept things but don't actually stick to them then? They should be punished, not the others who stick to the rules and are bothered by those who don't.

      1. @omni People complain about tons of stuff that isn't against the rules. For example, people love to complain whenever they see tech talk.

      2. @omni The problem isn't with people breaking a rule here and there; you people have somehow managed to get that concept. The problem is, when a slipup does happen, the white knights of the community are quick to jump down everyone's throat and give soapbox talks about how "the community is terrible" or "you're the people ruining the site". It's pushed many a member to leave the place because of it and I'm getting sick of it.

        1. @redenchilada The problem, as far as I can see it, is that people want the site to cater explicitly to their whims. They've grown up in the world of facebook and twitter and having feeds that agree with your viewpoint 100% of the time and have literally no idea how to deal with alternative viewpoints. That's why every time two of us have a discussion, half the site starts ranting about arguments.

          1. @ceruleanspark It really is. People get so up in arms when anyone disagrees with them on the internet. It's pathetic to watch, honestly.

            1. @redenchilada Everyone withdraws into their own small gated community, afraid of a larger forum. They stay inside their little ponds, leaking whatever “truth” suits them into the growing cesspool of society at large. The different cardinal truths neither clash nor mesh. No one is invalidated, but nobody is right. Not even natural selection can take place here. The world is being engulfed in “truth.” And this is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but a whimper.

              1. @ceruleanspark Ain't it ironic that the internet's done more to increase segregation than actually bringing people together.

                1. @redenchilada Quite ironic, yes. It's actually a very disturbing trend, even our search engine results aren't the same even when we look for exactly the same thing. It's scary, even, when you think about it.

                2. @redenchilada Well actually, the network itself has done nothing. The practises of a few vested interests and peoples inherent fear of being challenged has.

                3. @redenchilada That's something good about the internet. You can choose who to spend time with.

              2. @ceruleanspark @toksyuryel I think the internet polarizes society. Segregates us maybe, yes, but only if we're prone to segregation already. for others it brings strengthened unity.

              3. @ceruleanspark I'm kinda disappointed that nobody called attention to this particular dash. Because even if (as is probably the case) you agree with it, those are not your words. :P #

                2. @bitshift The reason I keep them on my tumblr is so I can bust them out when the need arises.
