@widget I don't entirely remember how old-school worked. (ECH didn't last a long time. :/) Does it /have/ conversation threading?

@nerthos I'm not really concerned what this site is about. My group started here and has since branched to facebook after it's first public meeting. vt3c asked for more activity in this RDN group and I said no because the group's main extension is facebook. I only merely gave him an example of why peoples reasons for joining facebook are irrational. I'll still be posting event notifications, but there wont be much else.

@widget "Make it more like facebook."
-
@widget Farmville
-
@widget Absolutely non. The site already does a great job giving many brony groups a good start or to just find other bronies.
-
@shadowflame Oh well. As Widget said, do you have any suggestions? Some of us are looking into exactly that, making the site more interesting for people.
-
@widget Don't you dare call me a juy, that's racist... or something.

I still want embedded link expansion for i.e. Youtube videos, attachments, stuff of the sort.

@redenchilada That would be nice.

@nerthos Well I guess I have one idea. Make the site more user friendly. I spent half an hour clicking things related to my account just to figure out how to change my avatar and background. Most sites you go to you just go to your profile and everything you can do is already apparent. I also didn't know you could private message, and still don't know how to as there is nothing in front of my face that says "send private message". (Btw I am not asking how to do these things I am just giving examples on how to improve the user base and the site). Another thing, make group chats invisible to non members. No reason it should pop up everyone browsing the site.
-
@shadowflame Oh, you've been registered since 2011. There's a "tutorial" now for new users, which explains the basic functions of the site.
-
@shadowflame this isn't a "group chat", this is the website. What part don't you understand?
-
@shadowflame Also the group tag just logs the post into the group for easy access, it's not intended to make them private in any way. DMs require mutual subscription, with the notable exception of th staff members.
-
@nerthos Thanks. I'll be sure and read it if I ever decide to become more involved here.
-
@shadowflame Im pretty sure you just go to your profile and click on the link below your avatar that says "change avatar" And as far as private messages, I think the person has to be subscribed to you

@widget what is breathing? I absorb oxygen through my pores
-
@rarity i thought you said "through your ponies"
-
@crusader8 that's what I said.
-
@rarity shaddap and except the flower in my teeth

@widget I do see the utility in making groups private, though. Some info just needs to be hidden to a few people. Maybe group-based options for "hidden from public timeline" and "require approval for new members"? Then again, I have no clue how much work that'd be to code. And then there's the question of keeping things within the rules of the site; I dunno how we'd handle that.
-
@redenchilada s/to a few people/to all but a few people/

-
@redenchilada Can't we all just be constantly connected by an ongoing hug?
-
@rarity I'm talking about the groups here. When you do "!group" to your members it should only be visible to them. I dunno if the site has changed since then, but my real life friends would never report me for spoilers of an episode I saw with them in person at a premier party. Which leads me to believe that one time I got in trouble for spoilers was because my groups posts are/were visible to the public as they happened. Once again, I'm not asking for help here. People are asking me for suggestions on how to improve the site, and this is one of them. More user friendly interface, and privacy for groups.
-
@shadowflame I guess it could be an option. I don't like it though. I'd use Skype or something for private groups.
-
@redenchilada But ABP isn't here anymore. Who else would fit into the "a few people" category?
-
@widget Honestly, I think it'd be nice to see an update to 1.x. But not with their conversation system. I like my threaded conversations. And maybe if we can keep the general site layout looking like it is now. Again, though, it's a question of how much work that'd be.
-
@archon I mainly meant my background. You have to go to your profile and click design. "Design" doesn't really give me the idea that it's used to change my background. I just clicked through everything until it said change background on my screen. The site has gotten much more organized than when I joined, but still needs a little work.
-
@redenchilada It has, but in a very crappy way.
-
@nerthos Define "a very crappy way".
-
@redenchilada poop is most assuredly involved.

@redenchilada I have screenshots but they're not very child friendly. Crappy as in, post one under another, and ugly looking, and kind of confusing?

@nerthos Under old-school mode? Buh. :<

@widget I don't mean private in the sense that nobody should see it. I just mean I should be able to discuss an episode with my group members, aka people I know irl, without the entire site flipping out at me. Imo people should want to join because the group name sounds enticing, like a brony group for the persons state or country. They could deduce of the group was for them AFTER joining. When I first joined here when it was only Purple Tinker and 1 or 2 people, the site was for finding brony groups in your state. Now it appears to be for brony general discussion. I'm sure I'll be told if I want it like that then that is what facebook is for then I should just stay there. Just providing suggestions after being asked for them, not looking to discuss why such suggestions go against what the site has become over the years.
-
@neurario Oh, ok. Good, then.
