  1. (srs though, the speedrunners who say "RNG" when what they really mean is "bad luck" actually irritate me)

    1. @redenchilada isn't it similar though? For example, if an enemy has 3 patterns, and he has a 1/3 chance of doing any of them, isn't it random which one he does?

      1. @rarity RNG and random do not mean the same thing. The RNG is the procedure, process, or program that generates random (actually quasi-random) numbers. Saying you "had bad RNG" when you missed a tricky jump is not right at all. There is no process within your body generating random numbers that say "I am/am not going to make this jump". #

        2. @redenchilada it simplifies it for the masses, though. And isn't that what life is really about?

          1. @rarity Saying "bad luck" would be simplified. Saying "RNG" is like the people who misuse words they find in a thesaurus. It screams "we want a COOL SPEEDRUNNERS-ONLY TERM for everything" or something.

              1. @rarity At least that's actually a proper use of terminology that describes what's happening properly.

                1. @redenchilada I couldn't think of another uber cool speedrunning phrase on the spot ;_;

        4. @redenchilada I forget which system it was (Intellivision, maybe?) but there was an old one that basically had a little mic or something for input from the world outside to generate the seed for its pseudorandom generator, basically creating true random numbers. Or so I've read, somewhere on the tubes.
