-
@pony soo... ehmm... me and my short attention span today... what is this entailing ?
-
@pony There better be a frickin' giraffe yo!!
-
@thelastgherkin that could be epic
-
@pony look likethe musketeers pokemon
-
@critialcloudkicker @mushi the !mane6 team released sillhouette teasers of 3 of the characters they're using, developed by Lauren #Faust
-
@mushi :3
-
@pony Soo... What is this stuff about skullgirls ?
-
@critialcloudkicker just back end programming related stuff. The Skullgirls engine will replace the one the team developed from scratch.
-
@pony developed using Fighter Maker 2000
-
@pony ... Are they allowed to do that ?
-
@critialcloudkicker Mike Z (or whatever) is helping them.
-
@rarity I really haven't been following it too closely. is that what they used to make the old engine? or is that something else?
-
@critialcloudkicker They'll either be buying the engine or they'll be gifted it by the Skullgirls folks if they receive enough donations.
-
@pony it is the old engine.
-
@rarity who is that ?
-
@critialcloudkicker the guy who made Skullgirls.
-
@rarity SKULL GIRLS
-
@rarity oooh! I see. As I understand, the old engine left something to be desired.
-
@anarchycarcino I honestly love Skullgirls. It just needs more characters.
-
@anarchycarcino Have you played SKULL GIRLS ?
-
@rarity All that Mavel Hype, BUT WITHOUT ALL THE D***! SKULLGIRLSSSS
-
@anarchycarcino But I need my guys in tight spandex !!!
-
@pony yeah it did. But they did a great job with it! I played the leaked build (which is almost like a year old now) and it was quite good. So I'm excited to see what they can do with the Skullgirls engine, which is one of the most fluid fighting games I can think of.
-
@critialcloudkicker Exclusive Zubaz DLC.
-
@anarchycarcino and 2 more buttons!
-
@critialcloudkicker I doubt that Hasbro wanted to deliver the C&D. I like to imagine that they only did so out of necessity to protect themselves from losing their IP rights.
-
@rarity sounds fantastic!
-
@anarchycarcino To me that does not say ANYTHING
-
Though now that I think about it, Hasbro probably could have swallowed their own greed and legitimately given the mane6 team the right to use their IP while still asserting their rights to the IP. But that may be a bit unrealistic.
-
@pony Nope... If you have an IP you can loan the rights to a company or person ( or group ) with a simple 1 paged contract whenever you please.
-
@critialcloudkicker I guess it sets a precedent though and could make other companies feel threatened and not want to invest in your IP.
-
@critialcloudkicker For example we see Build-a-bear has taken to ponies, and maybe they wouldn't have if Hasbro hadn't guarded their IP against fan-made pony plushie providers
-
@pony Build-a-bear ? never heard of them, they had pony plushies ? I am so out of touch with pony-news these days... Don't get me wrong, I still love them. But I am not batkiwi-insane anymore
-
@critialcloudkicker yup. It's a big US company that lets you choose and stuff your own stuffed animal.
-
@pony I think it was less to do with "It's our IP" and more to do with the potential impact it'd have on the brand as a whole. The fighting game community has an incredibly negative image which they defintely do not want associated with a brand intended for kids.
-
@pony So do they still make ponies ? :o
-
@ceruleanspark If most parents are like me they'll have no clue about the fighting game community, but I suppose somepony inside Hasbro could have thought that. Also, it may have upset Gameloft and other potential game developers.
-
@critialcloudkicker Build-A-Bear currently offers Pinkie and RD https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/156089_10200331257435729_1772880344_n.jpg

@pony It's not about parents, it's about brand management. You let them show up at somewhere like EVO with your brand name all over it, your brand ends up being mixed in with everything that happens there. The thought of that terrifies companies because once your brand has begun to build up uncontrolled association, it's quite difficult to "regain control".
-
@ceruleanspark OH HE'S SO PRINGLES
-
@ceruleanspark I don't really follow. What kind of associations would there be? Why are they so negative?
-
@pony The associations could cover the whole spectrum, since Hasbro would have no control over it, in which events and contexts their brand is shown, and therefore would be at the mercy of third parties. It could be either good or bad, but regardless, it would be given to chance instead of of carefully planned marketing strategies.
-
@pony Because it's both very competitive and male dominated, the behaviour at fighting game tournaments is inevitably pretty unpleasant, and frequently dips into all the common -isms and -phobias. Actually that goes for pretty much every male nerd dominated competitive arena really.
-
@ceruleanspark the FGC goes further than other competitive games somehow xD the hype, yo
-
@rarity I dunno, League of Legends is pretty much the archetype for godawful communities.
-
@ceruleanspark At least you can report people for being d***s.
-
@ceruleanspark [Le]ague of [Le]gends is a party game.
-
@ceruleanspark @nerthos ah I see. This makes sense.
